Default Hood Release Spring

Which of these springs return the hood latch and release cable back to normal?

And where can I get a new one?

When you say cable, do you mean the hood release cable handle inside? To my knowledge that dose not return automatically, you have to push it forward after you pull it. I've asked many C3 owners and they all have the same situation.

I believe the spring is supposed to pull the cable back in a perfect world with cables under 40 years old... Cables aren't designed to be pushed.

My 69 has a spring hooked from the left latch where the cable from inside attaches. Still I have to reset the latch manually. Been doing that so long it's second nature.

this must be on a newer vet than mine , because the latches are different on 77 and newer,.

You might post what year car is, etc., to help us giving you help.

Hi,
On 68-72 cars (maybe more?) the intent was for the hood-release pull handle under the dashboard to return to the 'closed' position after it was released.
There's a spring on the side of the left side hood latch that accomplishes this.
Depending on how the release cable is routed under the dash this action may be hampered.

The spring you showed isn't quite that big on my 1079.

I will have to look closer and see if the pull handle cable needs replacing also.

The cable under the hood was a mess before I replaced it and no the handle did not return to normal position before I replaced the under the hood cable.

I have to believe the cable was intended to return to the normal position without assistance.

you can pull the cable out of the housing and lube it to make it slide easier, or just replace the inside cable, not the complete housing & cable.(if they still sell it that way now, been over 20 years since I did mine.)

I removed the cable and greased it and replaced the return spring. I still have to push the handle back in.
