Tonawanda Stickers on 70 Big Block Valve Covers
The Tonawanda sticker on my 70 big block valve cover is long gone, but you can see what looks like mylar the right size where it would have been on the passenger side. The strange thing is there is mylar on the driver side valve cover of the same size in the corresponding position. I know the judging guide just calls for one on the passenger side, but has anyone seen a 70 big block with Tonawanda stickers on both valve covers?
Thanks,
Allen

Sticker is affixed to passenger side cover normally near the front.
My 68 is that way and I believe that was carried though each year.

Hi,
I believe the Tonawanda sticker was typically only on the passenger side valve cover as marshal indicated.
Also, it was used typically on chrome plated valve covers.
When the chrome covers changed to painted covers early during 71 production the sticker was no longer seen.
Regards,
Alan

My '70 LS-5 came from the factory with the sticker on the passenger side chrome valve cover. No sticker on the driver side.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought if I could find some original 70 valve covers which had labels on both sides that I would restore mine that way. If I don't find some, I am going to go the safe route and just put one on the passenger side.
Thanks,
Allen

If you are convinced that the sticker on your left valve cover was not added by a PO, take digital photos of what you have now, as evidence of the original sticker placement; then replace them as you believe they came from the factory.
Line workers got changed all the time; it would not be surprising to see stickers placed in 'different' areas. However, the stickers would be located on the intended side of the assembly line and would likely be placed on only ONE cover.

The frame is currently on jack stands, but getting close to being a rolling chassis:
The body is on a body dolly:
I need to take a picture of the engine. It is on an engine stand waiting to take off the non-original parts and replace with original parts.
I am taking the body to Tom Ames in Longview, Texas tomorrow to strip, repair and paint. Tom is one of the main instructors for paint for the NCRS. It will be Cortez Silver when it gets repainted.
I have a long ways to go yet, and it is really slow trying to restore to NCRS standards. But I am enjoying the challenge.
