Just thought I'd give an update. I welded some more stainless steel on to the original levers and ground them down to a better shape. Specifically, the rounded corner on the lever piece and I extended the notch farther into the shoe on the other. Installed the new pieces and got the parking brake calibrated up. The parking brake now works like a gem. Thank you so much for all the help provided.
Funny how the end of it being rounded DOES make all the difference in it.
Now...all it is left is to get the rest of the adjustments made and get the shoes burnished and correctly adjusted and I am sure you will have working parking brakes.
How do you guys get the old actuating lever removed from the grove in the backing plate, and the new lever installed? Also how did you get that new pin installed on the right side of the pic?
I think to get the actuating lever removed and installed I had to remove the c clip that holds the two levers together and reattach them once inserted into the backing plate. Not an east task. That right pin I had to partially remove the backing plate and wiggle it in. That nut right next to the pin should be the one you have to remove. I think maybe even some bending was involved. The whole process was the pain of the century. Best of luck!

THANKS, Some patience and a few deep breaths and it all came together.
