I have a ’69 350/350 and have a couple of questions regarding a small project.

I want to pull my original 1111493 distributor and rebuild it but still want a running car while I do so. I am looking for a temporary replacement. I will be keeping the coil, points etc. Not looking to change.

Now that I have been looking reality has hit me and I see that used GM mechanical tach drives are pricey and have been thinking that I can do without the tach drive. Around here I can find an old non-tach drive dist for about $20.

So here’s my questions:

Are all SBC distributors backwards compatible with or without the tach drive? I have seen several online which are late ‘50s and early ‘60s and have been wondering. Generally, I think the answer is yes with maybe a few exceptions but if I knew the answer I wouldn’t be asking. I realize there are difference with weights, springs etc that will affect the advance curve- I'm talking about drop in fit and use, not necessarily top performance.

I have checked out the For Sale section of this forum and I also check the usual online haunts. Not in a hurry. Just thought I’d throw this out – looking for a ‘mule’ to learn how to do the rebuild. Maybe someone’s got something useful propping open the garage door or something ….

Thanks

All SBC points distributors are identical dimensionally and will drop right in.

With very few exceptions, BBC and SBC distributors are all the same as far as interchange.

Until you get to more modern HEI. Then they are different. Don't ask how I know.
