I have a 1975 Corvette Coupe L82, 4spd and need help on how to remove the back panel interior light as I am in the process of tearing down the interior.
That 40 year-old plastic lens on the light may not flex like it used to! I had the same problem with that same lamp. Before you bust the lens, find out if you can replace it readily for reasonable money. Whatever method you use to get it free, don't screw up the lamp body, too.
As I recall, there are 4 "pins" on the lens that pop into slots on the lamp body. I think there are 2 on the top rail and 2 on the bottom. They are pretty close to the outer ends, I think. Maybe someone can post a photo of what the lens looks like from the 'inside'. That will show you what the pins look like and exactly where they are located. You need to use a small flat-blade screwdriver tip to insert between lens and body right at each pin (one at a time), pressing inward to defeat the 'safety catch', then pull lens out a bit. Work around the part till all 4 pins are loose and the lens will fall out. If the plastic is hardened and has become brittle, you might crack or break the lens. I'm crossing my fingers for ya'.
