Default Lowering rear end

I added 8 inch spring bolts many years ago but would like to lower the rear another inch. It's sitting at 28.50 now and 'Average' height (from AIM) is 27.00. Wow that's low. Anyway, certainly don't want longer bolts than 8's, so if I take that 'cake' that is on top of the spring and move it below the spring, that will help. Would it be safe? Or should I just remove that chunk and get some shorter bolts to hold the center of the spring? Thanks.

I am more concerned about the measurement at the front. Having the rear lower than the front is not good.

The ratio of bolt length change to rear end movement is about 2:1. If you make the bolt 1/2" longer, it will lower the rear about 1". I would not re-engineer the rear end just to prevent going to a 9" bolt.

Lets see a side pics of your car to see the stance.I believe the"cake" being rubber is there for protection from vibration and pos heat for the glass spring so I would leave it in place.

Please explain why that would be true.

Please excuse the messy room. The front is 27.5, so I guess that 28.5 for the back isn't too bad; suppose that the last thing I should be doing is making it even more difficult to get out of, Ha Ha

Thanks for the photo.

I know what GM writes as specs is one thing but how your car looks. It is just fine in my opinion and I would not mess with it.

'Knowing that your rear is about one inch higher that the front. I would leave it. And from what I can see..GM wants the rear to be lower than the front on teh standard suspension......which is crazy.

Trying to get your car to match these figures that GM wants is...a major waste to time. I check them but I do not get all bent out of shape if they are off. With a 1/2" +/- and a 1/4" form side to side. MIGHT have been good when the car was new ....rolling off the assembly line. But not today when it has been driven and aged.

Seems like you might have that backward. My experience was going from 6" to 8" bolts got me about 3/4" lower.
