don't recall if those L98 heads' studs go into water or not ... maybe sealant ... if threads are deep enough, with SA you can dump the fake plates. hope that gets ya going again.
I've no doubt the machinist knows lotsa stuff I don't
Rockers are ordered and expected for Saturday repairs. big thanks for your time and help.

got everything in today so I’m going to have it back together tonight and change oil in the am.
Just to confirm, I do not need guide plates at all? The SA rockers work independently? Seems like a big gap From the lifters and only the rocker to keep the push rods in place.

Yes independent... that's how SA works ... NO guide plates.
If you look at a iron Vortec L31 head, it has only SA rockers and No plates at all & huge openings thru heads where PRs pass.
If you were to use REAL guide plates With SA, it will put PRs in a bind and will fail.
If you need the fake plates as spacers under studs, simply bend the guide "ears" very wide or cut them off ... if the plates contact the PRs With SA they'll bind & fail.
I installed without the plates and used grade 8 washers as spacers, (I did get slightly longer studs), worked great and once adjusted everything lined up nicely. I’ll Recheck the valve adjustments, clean up and install the valve covers and crank her up tomorrow. Thanks again for your spot on advice and help. Hopefully I can get back to my blocking and sanding in prep for final prime later this week.

Just remember that your prep time will be the final result of your paint job and not the other way around !
A sharp focus in prep time determines what the paint job will look like !

The first pic is a restoration I did !
Second is the person I did it for !

Wow, very nice. Attention to detail shows for sure. Mr ***** Nelson himself, wow. Thanks for the advice.

All done and runs even better now, smoother and responsive. Not able to take it on the road but I can hear and feel the difference just idling in the driveway.
Your welcome ! It’s easy to get in a hurry when your getting close , but that’s when it’s also the hardest to slow down and make sure your ready ! Ask me how I know this ! Lol Good to hear it’s running right !
Cant wait to see how yours comes out !
Very inspiring thread!
I'm curious about the cam you have in your engine.
Those 58cc heads should add a lot of compression.
I read a lot of stuff about c3 corvettes requiring special paint because of the different fiberglass used; not sure if that applies of you don't go all the way down to the fiberglass though.
What kind of primer and paint are you using?

Hey Mongoose...thanks for checking it out. I have a Mild Speed pro cam installed. I can get the particulars for you if you want. Compression is much improved compared to stock with the L98 heads.
I used a Upol primer and PPG’s Shop Line Paint products. One of my suppliers on the job use to do body and paint work and we talked for awhile and decided to go that route, (I’ve never done this before so all new to me).
Got the door jams, hood edges, t-top water line and fuel door painted and cleared this weekend. Interior panels are also body color but a little less on the clear coat, (did not want those pieces to be too shiny). Plan is to sand all edges with 1000 grit and paint the body next weekend. Had some dust issues but I am told that will happen no matter what. I’ve asked someone to cut and buff for me because I’m to chicken to try it, lol.

Yes sir. Three coats of base and three of clear. I went a little heavier on the hood edges and fuel door. I have almost two gallons of paint with the 1/1 ratio so will try to get four coats on the body if it stretches but three full coats would be great.
Love the color and should be better after sand and buff next weekend. Had some issues with the water from the compressor but got through it thanks to my buddy Z. Not bad for a job done in a cave, (my garage).
Looking good up in there Gman81!
Now let it get as much sunlight as possible so it can cure before you cut and buff !
Can’t wait to see finished product!
Getting ready to install the SS T trim and windshield trim pieces. I’m not sure if the T trim goes behind the trim clips or inside the clips along with the windshield trim. Can’t seem to find any good pics or videos in my searching.
Meanwhile, wet sanding is complete, ready for buffing. New headlights are on the way, (going to try LED). Need to find a set of good seatbelts and still on the fence about seats, (OEM or upgrade), cost is a factor. I found a pair of Cypher seats online, anyone ever heard of or used Cyper?
