I ride a Harley and have a 66 Mustang Fastback in addition to my 76 'vette. I wave at all of them, including any older car/truck. I do see a reduction in the number of people waving back, but I don't care. I wave because I like what I see. And, I was driving my C3 home a week or so ago and I have a guy in a newer vette literally hang out of the window giving me a thumbs up, lol. Sorry, the newer vettes all look the same to me, so I can't differentiate what C number they are....
Honestly, I haven't had anyone pay for my gas or toll, but with my C3, it is almost embarrassing the attention I get in her. True story, I drove 2 hours to look at this car when I bought her, not even 10 minutes after the money changed hands I stopped to fill her up for the 2 hour drive home - I had some guy walk up and ask me if he could make an offer on my car! I told him no, I had just bought the car 10 minutes ago and would really like to enjoy it, LOL. I drive her the speed limit, or very close to it, because of the attention she gets. I was in the right lane minding my business, doing the speed limit, had a Sheriff, hauling *** in the left/fast lane come right up beside me and slow down.... I didn't even want to look over but when I did, he was giving me the big thumbs up and could see him mouth the words "nice car!" and then he took off.
Save the wave, it is always fun to drive a car that does not look like every other damn car on the road, and have others appreciate it. And, I appreciate them back, usually waving befoe they can!

I wave to all generations of corvettes.
Seems some of the younger lads with the newer generations didn't get the memo. lol
It's all good wave with no expectations of one in return.
If your not grinning ear to ear when your out driven a corvette, than I don't know what to tell ya man.
Your probably not a happy camper no matter what the ride is.
Just my thoughts.

The third or fourth time I drove my 78 Pace Car a young lady in a very new black C7 waved very enthusiastically. Of course I waved back. I don't get that kind of response in my daily driver Honda Accord.

Motorcycle guys wave too, except its the sign of piece and usually discrete, pointing the fingers to the road.

I always wave at Corvettes...save the wave and all that.
Here's What I found;

C-1's Wave back
C-2s Wave back
C-3's ALWAYS wave back.
C-4's wave back sheepishly...they're just happy that someone recognizes it as a Corvette.
C-5's...the WIFE waves back.
C-6's wish they had pop up lights. They're waiting for their leases to end.
C-7's NEVER wave.....they're all to geriatric to see out of the car....

flame ON!

Seriously?? Gotta get you boys some glasses!

First vette was a '15 C7 - started waving then and always do. The awesomeness of that car led me to an interest in others, and the sculpted lines of the C3s really got my attention.
Second vette is a '72 4spd vert. Great car, and we enjoy it. Get lots of waves from vettes and others.
Third vette is a '17 C7. Get waves from most vette owners, and often from others too. For those who 'diss' the new ones, put one on a track and let it loose - - unbelievable cars.
Fourth vette (will pick up this month) is a '68 435 vert. I'll continue the tradition for sure, no matter which series we're in.

Really like the lines of the C3s. Beautiful cars. And I think many of you are right when you suggest that some C7 owners may be first time vette owners and don't know about the wave, but I get it back most of the time from C7s, and slightly more so from earlier gens. For those who don't 'do the wave', I get it - personal choice. I enjoy it, and so does my wife. Cheers!

Proud C4 owner here....but that's still pretty funny. I'll wave myself but I haven't tripped across too many other 'vettes to wave at yet. (I've only had mine for a few non-winter months, and it isn't a daily, so there hasn't been much opportunity). So far my only close encounter of the sports car kind was with a black F355 that passed me on the highway on my way to work - I'd slowed down in the right lane for my exit and he pulled up next to me and gave the car a BIG thumbs up, and I gave him a smile and a wave right back.

Being a noob on the forums, I've actually been wondering if that was "Vette Etiquette" or not. Does Save the Wave mean "keep the wave going", or "save it for the Corvettes, don't waste your waves on inferior cars"? I *think* it's probably the former but there's been some comments I've read that seem to imply the wave is reserved for Corvettes....possibly excluding C4s.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to do my own thing one way or the other - just curious.

To Hopper....obviously kidding.

The Pavilions in Scottsdale AZ... supposedly the longest running car 'show' in AZ.
First Saturday is Corvette Night.
About 100 'vettes show up.....50 C-7's in a row.....average age of the the owners about 70. It's the demographic. You haven't really laughed until you see an 80 year old guy in a C-7 do a 51 point turn to back into one standard parking space. 4 others standing around all saying the same thing. " Want me to do that for you?"

C-7 are great cars.....just the demographic is turning positively geriatric.

Pretty accurate. Little kids wave, too. Never had anyone offer to fill the tank, but we've gotten some free rides on toll roads/bridges. Crazy people trying to drive alongside and film. Crazy on bikes for the thumbs up. Best though, sitting at a traffic light and we get a couple toots from an 18-wheeler passing through.

Funny, same as above, sortof, re bicycles. Those on new, plastic bikes are much less likely to wave/socialize with those of us on real steel bikes, regardless of the pedigree.

Thanks....For the record....I love all Corvettes and would not kick ANY ONE OF THEM outta bed. A measly 75 coupe would be a terrific daily driver! Even a 165 Hp CA. car.

I was the membership director for North Shore Corvettes of MA for 15 years...so I get to know people.

I'm on this site because of love, not hate and derision.

I'll go one further (for those who haven't tapped into the C-8 luggage space thread).

C-8 owners WOULD wave back but the 48 volt electrical system won't let them open the window!

Save the wave!

Hi guys, I knew you were kidding - I was too with my glasses comment, should have put a smiley face by it! Kind of funny on the geriatric thing too. I'm getting closer to the 70 mark - hit it in a few years (with any luck!). The good news is that, young or oldish, there is a lot to like about vettes, old or new. We got into them late. We've owned over 130 cars, but until the '15, never a vette. We've discovered a new passion and learned a lot about the history, etc. Nice to be able to share with others too!

Hopper.. I'm at 109, but I'm a bit younger than you! LOL Still the president of the VW Scirocco Club.

With Sciroccos " We don't wave, we force the other guy to the side of the road!" That's how I met one of my best friends.

Corvettes are and were supposed to be 'affordable'....I make a good living.....paying more for a C-7 than my mortgage....NOT.

However I CAN see...when approaching my 'seniority' wanting "that one car'.

Lets see what the C-8's do.

cheers Unka

Similar story... I had my C3 in the driveway a couple months ago, doing some tuning, when my 31y.o. nephew stopped by. He has a 72 Camaro SS, so we both have the same interests in cars. I had just finished up, so we got in to take a quick spin. We were heading back to the house, and exited the freeway, while on the access road, I nailed it. Blew by a small strip mall doing at least 30MPH over the limit (Not smart, but there was no access from anywhere else, kind of a "double" access road, so not really dangerous.) Looked in the rearview, and saw a sheriff hauling up behind me. I thought "Oh Sh...", when he pulled up beside me with the biggest grin, and a thumbs up.
Would NEVER get away with that in my newer sports car...
