Default Broken sending unit

Finally getting around to fixing the gas gauge. Figured it was the gauge because the tank and sending unit are new. Purchased the whole tank kit from Corvette America. Gauge worked for a bit and then slowly quit. Bad connection..? Heck No. I looked inside the tank with a flashlight, and the float is on the bottom. Grabbed a plastic spoon to pull it up to see just what's going on. The float will not float, and it feels like the armature is broken. This part is less than a year old. Decided I would not purchase the same part from Corvette America again. Checked Ecklers Corvette, and it seems to be the same cheap sending unit. Does anyone make a good reliable sending unit for fuel.?

in these inquiries, perhaps list what year piece you're working on in

I had this bookmarked for future use.

But if I ever get to the point of replacing the tank, I'll probably go with a capacitive sender and a new gauge.

Found a decent sending unit outside the Corvette network. O’reilly’s carries a Spectra brand that appears to be a different float and pickup screen than what’s being offered by the specialty outlets. It is a little more, but what’s your time worth? Not happy about doing this job twice. Once I burn a full tank, I will install it and let the group know if it’s any good.

At least they will warranty the unit. Tough getting that done over the 'web'...

Hello Gold Dragon. I don't know what O'reilly's charges but I noticed Rockauto also carries a Spectra brand unit. Just mentioning , not endorsing any one company over another. Take care.

For what it's worth, here is the Spectra fuel sending unit for the early C-3's. You can see from the photo, the float IMHO is less likely to fail because there are no penetrations and the material is a better quality. Also found out that the bend in the pick up tube is extremely important. The failed unit pickup was 3 inches off the bottom, effectively running me out at about a quarter tank of fuel. The new unit pick up sets nicely on the bottom as it should, giving a much more accurate read. Happy with the product, install was messy but quick. Took her out for a spin after, gauge is working .
