Cobalts are awesome boats. Out of my price range, for sure.

This is my 2001 280 Sundancer. Twin V6’s and Kohler genset and my 1989 220CC with a rockin 5.7 SBC. My other passions. I need a bigger toy box.

SeaRays are Camrys. Cobalts are Beemers. My Pantera is essentially a Vette. Old Vette. Makes it hard to use for fishing.

derekderek: so does that mean a Sea Ray works well and is very reliable(like my newer Vette), where as the Cobalt, like a bimmer, is very expensive to buy, and even worse after the initial warranty expires?

That has been my personal experience, owning all 4.

If you were to buy ANY old boat, it will cost a lot to keep it going, and people make a big deal out of it, while we enthusiasts will think nothing if dropping many $$$ on the Vette. Also, if toy.can fix an old Vette, you.can surely fix most things on a boat, especially the ones with automotive-based motors - they are mostly GM motors, with some being Ford or Chrysler based powertrain.

I have two teenage boys, and NOTHING compared to the priceless family memories we have created by boating on day trips, and camping at the lake over the last 15 years. Dollar-for-dollar, and hour-for-hour, the boat has been the best toy for the family

The collector cars are more for me, and that's not a bad thing, bit I still enjoy going out with the whole family. that is why in addition to the 69 Stingray, we have the 69 Pace Car - pile all 4 of us into it, and go on a cruise, or dinner, ice cream, etc.

I'm in a fortunate position where I have the two old cars, a newer Vette and Camaro, and the boat, so we can enjoy whichever, whenever we want.

BTW, when our last Sea Ray was almost 20 years old, i suggested to my wife that we look at a new one. Since it was for the whole family, she replied with no hesitation at all - "go for it"! Takes much more work about buying a car.

A lot of people's stories are about other owner's experiences, and usually the tale gets taller as time goes by. Different strokes for different folks.

We'll go for a cruise tonight, and off to the lake tomorrow....

Have a great Father's Day everybody!

Rob

I have a garage full of Big Blocks. With four more Big Blocks in the three boats. One of the spares may end up in the Corvette. I am thinking LS6 copy but iron head chevelle version. Since that is what i have. In fact, the Mercruiser 365 (454) mag is a 71 chevelle LS6 with a crappy barely better than stock truck cam. Thing with a boat you need a wide LSA to reduce valve overlap. You guys have heard the term exhaust reversion? Well when you have exhaust reversion with a boat you're sucking water in through the exhaust into the Pistons.

Oh and the boat's drivetrains are all the same. All chebbys. All Merc bravo or alpha drives. Of course outboards are making them extinct. There is one outboard that is a 5.3 LS mounted vertically on top of a driveshaft.

I was thinking of getting a project boat, owner says it runs great and looks good, paint is a little rough but can be buffed out, The motor was rebuilt recently and was stroked, blue printed, balanced, and massaged, ported , polished and chamfered. It just has been sitting unused since he lost interest. has all the original parts and is numbers matching, low miles andn only trailerd to boat shows...was once raced n the offshore class and has a couple of trophies

heres a recent pic

The old Captains name is Capn Bubba and the boat is called the Ship of Fools... I think it has good bones and just needs a little money and love to get her going

Looks like a real deal if the birdcage isn't rusted out...

So I have a 1968 Larson Glaspar. (For those who don't know Glaspar WERE the guys who helped build the first C-1.) The Engine is a 165HP marine-ized version of the 'Blue Flame Six'
I've had the Boat 26 years now.
(Name ANY Car) Costs me more money than the boat x 10.
Proper maintenance and sequestering means that the boat is no 'drain' at all. I don't think it costs me $50/Year!
It is ten times more expensive to own a POOL.

Sea Ray used to be built in Phoenix....a lot of guys I've worked with, USED to work there. Quality piece! Too bad they blew town.

I think it's rather CLEVER...Sea-Ray.....much less egregious than putting a STINGRAY emblem on your '78!!!

Unkahal

That is a SeaRay...boat plate and not correct for an 82CE CFI car. The black plate that says "CORVETTE" in silver letters is the correct plate for an 82 if you want to run a front plate.

I don't know what a Sea Ray is, but I bet it's fiberglass and expensive to maintain and operate.

Don't know for sure about that plate for an 80 either? The reason being, I ran that exact plate on my 66 Chevelle SS back in 71 and it worked back then on that car. To each their own I guess.

If you like the front plate, leave it there.

BTW, if you are concerned about what others might think of your car, you shouldn't have bought a C3. Others will either love it or pick it apart for how they think it SHOULD look. Let them look...and talk....and go away. It's a free country (for now, anyway).....
