This is my 2001 280 Sundancer. Twin V6’s and Kohler genset and my 1989 220CC with a rockin 5.7 SBC. My other passions. I need a bigger toy box.
That has been my personal experience, owning all 4.
If you were to buy ANY old boat, it will cost a lot to keep it going, and people make a big deal out of it, while we enthusiasts will think nothing if dropping many $$$ on the Vette. Also, if toy.can fix an old Vette, you.can surely fix most things on a boat, especially the ones with automotive-based motors - they are mostly GM motors, with some being Ford or Chrysler based powertrain.
I have two teenage boys, and NOTHING compared to the priceless family memories we have created by boating on day trips, and camping at the lake over the last 15 years. Dollar-for-dollar, and hour-for-hour, the boat has been the best toy for the family
The collector cars are more for me, and that's not a bad thing, bit I still enjoy going out with the whole family. that is why in addition to the 69 Stingray, we have the 69 Pace Car - pile all 4 of us into it, and go on a cruise, or dinner, ice cream, etc.
I'm in a fortunate position where I have the two old cars, a newer Vette and Camaro, and the boat, so we can enjoy whichever, whenever we want.
BTW, when our last Sea Ray was almost 20 years old, i suggested to my wife that we look at a new one. Since it was for the whole family, she replied with no hesitation at all - "go for it"! Takes much more work about buying a car.
A lot of people's stories are about other owner's experiences, and usually the tale gets taller as time goes by. Different strokes for different folks.
We'll go for a cruise tonight, and off to the lake tomorrow....
Have a great Father's Day everybody!

heres a recent pic
The old Captains name is Capn Bubba and the boat is called the Ship of Fools... I think it has good bones and just needs a little money and love to get her going

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

So I have a 1968 Larson Glaspar. (For those who don't know Glaspar WERE the guys who helped build the first C-1.) The Engine is a 165HP marine-ized version of the 'Blue Flame Six'
I've had the Boat 26 years now.
(Name ANY Car) Costs me more money than the boat x 10.
Proper maintenance and sequestering means that the boat is no 'drain' at all. I don't think it costs me $50/Year!
It is ten times more expensive to own a POOL.
Sea Ray used to be built in Phoenix....a lot of guys I've worked with, USED to work there. Quality piece! Too bad they blew town.
I think it's rather CLEVER...Sea-Ray.....much less egregious than putting a STINGRAY emblem on your '78!!!

BTW, if you are concerned about what others might think of your car, you shouldn't have bought a C3. Others will either love it or pick it apart for how they think it SHOULD look. Let them look...and talk....and go away. It's a free country (for now, anyway).....
