it’s a Chinese part, it fits perfectly, right?


I just pretended everything was fine. Plugged it all back in, and got things working.

You'll be replacing it again next year if you dont. A genuine one isnt cheap but it will last 50 years. Count on it being close to $100. My original went bad with multiple different things from not starting, to shutting off, would start but zero accessories. It happened 1 mile from my house and i had to push it the last 1/4 mile...luckily a fire dept and an officer were driving by, i thought i was going to die until they helped. Once it was in the driveway it started so i could drive into the garage.....
But I am strongly considering getting the NOS eBay part. They are expensive, but then everything fits as it should. Including that the repop one does not have the light. So yeah, I haven’t put the center console back in place yet, and once that’s in, that’s the point of no return (for now).

I ran out to tske a drive today, which turned into an ordeal. I was originally going to take the Corvette to the store, because it’s a nice day and why not? I start the car and my wife says, “take me around the block. I haven’t been in the car in a while”. So I do. Of course, I get on the throttle a couple times, because you have to. Then I get stopped at a red light. Car is idling kind of high, but I don’t worry about it. I gun it at the light, and the throttle sticks. Car revs to about 5-6000 RPM. I try to put it in gear to try to slow the engine down, but only succeed in burning the clutch. So I just grab the key and turn off the engine. Fortunately, I’m only around the block from my house. I pull into a parking lot and look at the accelerator. It is definitely stuck. I push the carburetor linkage and attempt to start the car. I probably flooded it playing with the accelerator, so I really have to crank it over. It sputters a little and I give it some gas and it revs to red line again. Ok, I can’t even tap the pedal now. I crawl into the drivers side footwell to see if the pedal itself was binding up on something, but it seemed to move freely. I also couldn’t see anything on the carbureto with the throttle plate binding. When I unhooked the cable, the carburetor moved freely. So after pulling the air filter off again, and getting the carb to idle position. I get it started and attempt to drive home without pressing the gas pedal. I get it into gear, and start going. I give it a little gas and the throttle sticks at 2000 rpm. I can deal with that. I manage to limp home at 30 mph, get it into my garage and look closer. Turns out the throttle cable is braided steel cable (just like the brake cable on most bikes) and one of the strands in the cable had broken. This was causing the cable to bind in the sheath, and the carburetor spring was not strong enough to pull it back. I guess I’m lucky my wife wanted to go around the block, because who knows how far I would have gotten before I would have had this issue pop up. Fun with old cars. It’s always something…. You can see the single broken strand that is binding things up. Replacement is already on order.
