Tranz Zam I am going to do something I wouldn't normally do. I can see you are in way over your head here so if you just give me the car and everything I will save you a lot of grief and aggravation.
On a serious note that is coming along quick thanks for posting all the photos for it along the way. I cant wait to see it completed. Are you going for the full Candy red and flames look as the movie car or are you going for the Gold movie car?
lol
Definitely going full candy red. I've been thinking about making the base coat out of straight .015 gold metal flake in an intercoat, then laying the candy red over that. It'll look like a bass boat.
do you remember the gold car in the movie? personally I would think about going in that direction because I have never seen anyone do that. Large Metal Flake gold would be cool....but its not mine LOL Use to be a company in Haverhill called Metalflake I think I may know where you can get all the colors they offered.

Are they still around? It be nice to get all the supplies from a local place.
I like the gold car, but the red is iconic. Plus to me a true candy red is one of thr most amazing colors to look at in person.
absolutely and I am following your logic there mine is also painted a custom red with two different pearls and a sparkle flake instead of metallic in the paint. I like the idea of the Gold because nobody else has done it...... I don't believe they are around any more in Haverhill. On my funny car we did it in House of Colors Snow White Pearl with purple spindrift flakes added to the paint. Looked like purple leds at night under the lights. or really popped in the sun. The lower half was done in HOC Passion Purple that was also a pearl.. I've got the whole HOC chip book if that helps as you get closer
Flaming river offers a RHD conversion. The original cars had Harley-Davidson chains running behind the dash with sprockets . I got my parts from Australia back in the 80's do do mine.
Mid America Motorworks owned one of the 2 cars for a while. I manged to get out there and let Mike Yager drive mine, and I got to sit in the "Corvette Summer" car. It was a week before Funfest, so he couldn't move it out of the showroom due to time constraints.
Looks like a great project! I got to see the promo car that Dennis Collins and Gas Monkey had a few years back, commented on that thread then, it was also not converted and remained LHD... I watched as these parts were for sale a long time here on CF and glad that someone is going to get put them to use.
Good luck with your project, I am subscribed!
Oh and nice early T/A's looks like a 70 1/2 and 71 maybe?? I just rescued a 70 1/2 basket case in June that literally had been sitting in a field since behind a body shop here in TX since Aug 1990. Still has the JW Rally II's on it! My 78 SA frame off is taking too much of my time so the 70 is going to be sold to a friend's brother to resto.
Looking forward to seeing your Corvette Summer car come to life!

Sharp eye! The better looking one is a 71, and the rough one is a 70 RA III 4 speed. My Dad was chasing that car for 20 years before obtaining it. It's 100% original from carb to pan, fan blades to rear axle. It's an M21, 3:73 car. Has all 5 JW wheels, all with matching dates.
Thanks! Nice cars, and great stories like your Dad chasing that car for 20yrs!
Yep, like many folks on CF that are car nuts, you start somewhere and Pontiac's were it for me. First car, that I still own is a 68 Firebird with a 3 yr. only OHC 6 engine, and then a 79 TA, which I also still have and restored about 25 yrs ago... Anyhow the first car that got me excited about them was a '57 Corvette formerly raced in CA in the 60's. I was 5 when I rode in it the first time and the smell of hot axle grease and exhaust filled the cabin... Anyhow, I always wanted a Vette, Joined NCRS and CLoT (Corvette Legends of Tx) but am a member of POCI and a local car club called DAPA (Dallas Area Pontiac Assoc) so I still like my Pontiac's too.
One of my favorite pieces of camera work from that movie was during the 'reveal' they showed the shadow (reflection from dark to light) on the roof panels as the Corvette slowly passed through the shop doors for the first time. You definitely need to re-create that shot!! ha ha..
Note: Where are the trim rings on your T/A wheels!!

That was a great shot! You can see a fine pin stripe around the roof and hood. Not something you can see in the rest of the movie.
I dont like the way trim rings look on Rally II wheels, so I don't run them.
What are you guys using to bond panels? I've used 3M 08115 on metal before, but never fiberglass. I'll be bonding the entire rear clip, as well as the fender extensions and the hood hinge bracket to the nose.

Pretty sure Pontiac delivered the 70 Trans Am without Trim Rings too... Read it in the “The Fabulous Firebird” by Michael Lamm Pg 69 about a thousand years ago!!

It was an option. I never really liked how they made the rim look skinnier than it was. Without the ring the rim looks wider imo
Threw on one of the nos 15x10 Westerns to check fitment. It's close, but nothing touches. I do think I'll have to move the E-brake cable brackets on the trailing arms to the top of the arm. Nothing to hard.
I've been messing with a few other projects, but slowly chipping away at the Vette.
I've begun work on the hood hinge system. It's made out of solid aluminum with pressed in bearings and a solid stainless 1" bar.
Initially I was planning on running the bar thru the factory frame extension thing and trimming the excess off so it could tilt forward. This would work, but it only allowed the hood to open a short amount before the front of the wheel opening would hit the tire, and the front spoiler was on the ground.
To solve this, I cut slots into the factory bracket that now allow the hood to be picked up 2" and go forward 6.5". So now when you open the hood you simply pull it towards you, then lift it up. Kinda like a Viper.
