there was an old thread here 4 or 5 years ago with pics of fenders from vettes detroyed from old tire blow outs. I've been to 2 shows this weekend and saw a lot of cars on old tires...that old down easterner mentality.

My experience was hauling my work trailer down I 15s to I 80e in Salt lake. just did the turn on the spaghetti bowl from north to east when my right rear started slamming into the fender. It had delaminated, the thread had 7/8ths come off like an old recap tire and proceeded to beat the rear fender, wheel well and exhaust into submission. I was able to get the tread off and limp to my buddies garage on state st. It had bent the rear quarterup so it was almost up to the top of the wheel well. Collapsed the tailpipe so tight it had to be cut off and ripped the plastic wheelwell out at 55 miles and hour. So what would that have down to a fiber glass body at 85mph???? scary to picture in my mind.

I remember this one from 2014:

The day you start driving on a rubber tire manufactured by "people", you put your life in your hands and the 'probability' clock begins. The longer they are in use, the higher the risk they will fail. Pretty simple, actually. Now, the question is, "How long will YOU decide to drive on those tires until you no longer feel safe?"

Kinda like playing Russian Roulette with your car, isn't it?............

Here's why:
(BTW, I removed all 4 wheels, destroyed the other 3 tires so they wouldn't be sold, and bought 4 new tires.)

I just checked the receipt for the new BFG replacement tires I purchased on 8/19/2009. The mileage on the car was 55,368 and I now have 55,388 miles...driven 20 miles in 11 years.

20 miles. That's just not enough. LOL

Gotta let the people hear what the BBs were like when they used to prowl the streets!

Maybe, on the way home on 8/19/2009, your odometer gave up the ghost.

You need to reconnect the cable that goes from the speedo to the tranny!

I know, it sounds crazy but my '71 hasn't left my street since the late '90's. Just a quick drive to the end of the street and back once in while and back to its garage space. My 11 year old tires have zero wear.
It was my daily driver from 1975 to 1977, then an occasional pleasure ride, and then it was retired. Still has full coverage insurance and current registration and tags. Should have sold it in the late 70's, but rubber bumpers were the thing to have....those chrome bumpers were so passe.

Wow! Kinda wonder why we keep buy BFG's. I do like the looks of the tire, but in reality, all tires have a shelf life.
