I'm looking at a '68 that I might buy. Car has been repainted red (of course) at some point in it's life. Paint is very tired now. Sorry, no pics. Car was orig. Bronze with Dark Orange interior. I don't care much for red so if I buy it I'm thinking of painting it back to Bronze. Count shows it was a very popular color choice back in '68.
Curious how many of my Corvette brothers here have a '68 in Bronze?
And would you mind sharing a few pics of yours please.
Cheers, Greg
Greg, I think bronze with a dark orange interior would be fantastic. I've seen a pic or two of that combination over the past few years and I think it's stunning.
I always liked that combo. When I was a kid saving to buy a vette delivering newspapers I walked by one everyday. It was about 1975 and owned by a kid 2 years older then me. He parked it on the street year round until he got tired of it and sold it. It was the same combo only with a white top. I imagine it was pretty beat up and that the 17 year old kid didn't know how to fix it, just wreck it.
Y'know, this makes me wonder....
I think this Code 992 is a really great color for a Corvette but I'd really like to know, who was the guy in charge of naming the colors at Chevrolet and what made him decide to call this particular color "Bronze" for 1968 and 1970 when real bronze usually looks more like this:
Now, had they called it "Corvette Copper" or even "Metallic Burnt Orange" to match the Dark Orange named interior, it might have made more sense.
Probably the same guy who decided that Saturn "Gold" Poly on other GM lines should be named War Bonnet "Yellow" for the Corvette.

It's one of those colors you really love, or not so much. My '68 was originally bronze w/ dark orange interior and been red since 1980. I will say '68 bronze in the sun is stunning and very different. I find the color changes based off lighting, sometimes it's orange, other bronze, etc. If you like it, go for it.
