Default Water temp

I just replaced my send unit for water temp and wire tip that connects to it and I’m getting 12 volts to it but the gauge is still stuck past the 280 mark and stays like that when the car is off or on

Sender wire is shorted to ground, I believe. With an electrical gauge, it [generally] stays where it was when power was cut. Since it read 280 when you cut power, it reads 280 with power OFF. Then, when you turn power ON, it still has the short and...yep...reads 280.

Look through these....It looks like you are either missing a ground or you shorted out the gauge to the housing. It has to have those tiny insulators on the posts. You can pulll the gauge out and test it if all else fails but you shouldnt have to. The ender is just a variable resistor that is heat dependant.
