Working on getting my factory alarm to work on my 72, so I lowered the spare tire carrier and removed the spare to get better access. I never looked at the spare before. It’s original and looks unused.
L-46man not sure why you have to pee in his wheaties He is just excited to find an original spare for his car. Lark327 congrats, here is a page that can help you decipher the date code on your tire: http://anghelrestorations.com/upload...tires_v1.3.pdf BTW share a few pics of your 72, love to see it!

Congratulations on your find. It is rarer then most think or know for a 1972 at this point and time. Plus after enlarging your photo it does appears it was never used as the lug nut holes still have paint on them and the center of tire has a spine of rubber. The side walls have very little to zero cracking. Disregard the negative comment.
Both of my C-3's have original never-been-on-the-ground spares. You can tell this because the '****' are still on the tires and the color bands from the factory are still there. (on Mine) Both have been removed and bagged.
I'm not peeing in his wheeties....This is MORE COMMON than not.
Of course the IRONY is they are not really spare tires anymore....completely unsafe to drive on, and could cause thousands of dollars worth of damage if employed.
If he is NCRS...great you got 'lucky' Just don't use it.
Congrats. I was excited to find mine back in the day, At the very least it confirms what tire option you had. If you are not an originality guy there are those those that will pay big money on EBay for that. Oh, and I disagree with L-46man, I think it's brand new, look at all the little rubber nubbins still there and the mold mark going around the diameter. And that wheel has never been on. Not a mark on it around the stud holes.
Not great reading upside down but date code looks like MJU2DYA441 which would mean the 44th week of 1971. BTW I have an original blackwall spare on my 69. It has a number of inspection marks etc. Here is a a stamp on the sidewall:
Looks OG to me too. If your cars history is lost or unknown, finding that original spare in your carrier gives you a small reassuring glimpse into the cars history.
Just my two cents.

Reason: Shorten
I see the 72 spare tire has the balancing weight on the inside of the rim like it should be and the pink dot on the tire is aligned with the BB shot ball on the rim ( that was for balancing so as to use minimal weight)

My 69 has the original redline(s)
Ok, but do they have original air in them?
OP, nice find. I found my original jack in 2005 ( 68). I have owned the car since 1985. I never looked and it was a nice surprise. It was "used".🤣
Thanks L-46. Do you belong to this forum just to throw shade? Tire looks unused to me. I washed it as it was a little dirty after 50 years. maybe still has some dirt on it. But you would know that, wouldn't you.

He seems like a miserable **** in all his posts I've seen
Original, unused tire is a nice find. I kept mine, cleaned it up and put it back in the tub with 5 psi in it. Didn't want it to blow out from "age" in the tub. I have a cell phone to call AAA or Hagerty, if needed.
You originally had blackwalls on your car according to your tank sticker. Nice tank sticker! You can run your dealer and zone code to see where it was delivered new. You can also purchase a shipping data report through NCRS if you are interested. https://www.ncrs.org/services/dealer-code-data.php

You stated original air just so everyone knows the air compressors for tire inflation at the assembly plant. Had a specification from GM engineering for the compressed air and the amount of different components nitrogen, oxygen, moisture, etc.
Also have 4 40 cu ft. cylinders left of original GM plant air if someone needs a refill $50 per tire.
