I put together this spread sheet that may be helpful. I did this to make sure my PU fit under or on it. Costs are up substantially so you'll have to get new prices.
Crazy how much lift pricing has jumped in the last 12 months.
I had no idea. Just went to Greg Smith to look at current prices and holy crap!
About 6 years ago I bought my 4 post Atlas Garage Pro 8000 for $1,995. After taxes and using a company (they recommended) to deliver it 150 miles to my house and INSTALL IT, the total was about $2,700.
Current price is over $7,400 and that's not including tax or install!
Even if it were $10K, it would still be worth every penny...best thing I ever bought.
I have a Rotory brand lift. When the local High School dropped it's auto class, I attended the auction and bought the new lift they just had installed. $1600 plus another $400 to have it moved and installed. Gee, now that I think of it, that was 16 years ago. Seems like yesterday.
Holy cow Redcruz1120! I was getting excited about my plans for a somewhat modified pole building but now:
But you did give me some good ideas for the inside of the garage.
Thank you! Whatever you do make sure you have plenty of electrical plugs installed! When I saw how many i had they were more noticeable after paint and thought maybe I had gone overboard on 34 plugs!!To be honest I could use a few more!! Good luck and take pics for us!!
Holy crap I just looked on Greg Smith for my lift. I paid 2100 about 6 years ago. It is now 5700. That’s a lot of money for the same lift. I work in the steel industry and know steel has gone up but not that much. Someone is pocketing a lot of coin on these things. Glad I got mine before this huge price jump. I will say having a lift is invaluable.
I have 6 lifts in my home garage. 3 two posts (Rotary and Mohawk) and 3 four posts (Misc brands). I just looked at replacing one of my older 4 post lifts with a newer unit. Holy cow, the prices are crazy.

Thanks. I was going to do something similar. You saved me a lot of time.
Anyone have a 4 post lift in their garage? Any manufacturer's that you would recommend or that I should stay away from?
I'm planning to build a new garage in the spring. Adding a lift may help reduce my footprint so I can avoid the expense of designing and installing a storm water management system.
My original plan was for a 10' ceiling but based on what I see on a few websites I may need to push that up to 12'.
Any of you that built garages, is there something you wish you had included when you built the garage?
I will also add that when building my garage layout, I used a free online tool called SketchUp. It really helped me get a realistic idea of my space, and plans to maximize it.

I'm in the process of buying a used Rotary 2-post. I'm getting it refurbished, delivered, and installed by a certified Rotary service company for about $400-$500 less than I can buy a new cash and carry chinese lift.
With the prices as high as they are I wonder if there is a way to get enough people together and purchase directly from China in a full container.
I don't know anything about shipping cost, duty tax etc. but maybe we have the knowledge in our community.
I think that would be a lot of effort. What may be possible is a group of us buying from one company and getting a better price. I will write a bid spec if I can find more than one company that has the product I want, and usually one company will knock a few hundred off. I am not ready now but could be if we got a group willing to buy together. If not, I will have a bid spec by the middle to end of spring and will share it with anybody that is interested.
The problem I see is that we all may have different requirements and a single lift supplier may not be able to meet all our needs. For me, I need a lift that I can get my PU on and under, so it has to be wide and a higher capacity. I want the higher lift since I hit my head on the arms of my two post on a regular basis. I would prefer to have manual locks since I don't want to be turning on my air compressor every time I want to move a car, but I can live with the air locks if that is the best lift. .

No problem. I sent it as a PDF because I wouldn't open an Excel file from someone I don't know. If you or anyone else wants the Excel version, PM me
FYI, For all:
My son and I got burned by the code inspector on his garage addition. The IRC (International Residential (building) Code) has restrictions on the height of the walls and has opening requirements which pertain to the garage door. Even though his drawings were approved by the prior inspector, who left, the new inspector is holding us to the latest requirements. If you are building or modifying a building make sure you know and meet the requirements.
Well, I just got a quote back from a Chinese lift company. They will sell the lift to me for about $ 1400 US and ship it to Denver for an additional $800 US.
Quite a bit cheaper than anybody here in the states. I haven't agreed to anything yet , and I am hoping someone in our community has already done this , or why they passed up the opportunity.
My guess is there will be additional taxes or duty fees, or shipping fees from whichever seaport they go to.
I think I may have them draft up a contract to look at before pulling the trigger on this

sounds like a good deal. Let us know how you proceed. Although you might find comparable prices here in the states if you look at used.

Having looked at several, not all Chinese lifts are equal. Some of them like Bendpak and Direct Lift are good lifts, some others I would not feel comfortable under. I would try to find someone who has the same lift to evaluate firsthand before you order.
On that note, Direct Lift just went up $300...that makes $1,000 price jump in less than a year.
