I tried brute strength but I wasn't strong enough and as I was doing them by myself they started to spin.

Yes 1 and 4 on both sides. The cages at the back (number 4) are held in by pop rivets and they just popped right out.

I'm just going to run a bolt through 4 and put a little plate on the inside as well as the washer to give it some extra support.

Well snapping off 3/8 inch bolts certainly isn't beyond my abilities. But then I do turn wrenches 6 days a week.
so tonight I put in another couple hours. Put about an hour into this one. But never had to grit my teeth. Just a ton of patience.

Number 3 passengers side. Thought I'd see how my home made penetrating oil was working. Turned out about a 1/4 inch without any issues. Then hit that rusted end that protrudes down into the frame. So in and out. Spraying penetrating oil all along.
Managed to drift out out drivers side number 1 without issue. Passengers side number one may be snapped off but it isn't moving.
Then just for fun I put a wrench on passengers side number 4. Not so good.

Here she lays in the pan. Note the square nut is still on the bolt. The cage that holds the nut is still riveted in place. It all came out the bottom!
soooo, I think I too will need to be putting in a square reinforcing plate. I was so trying to save this nut as I just redid my entire rear compartment, sound proofing, speakers, carpets, seatbelts and all. Really don't want to tear it all out over this bloody nut.
so, Dave. Save me hours of work and give me the dimensions of the plate that fits snuggly in the floor of that well.
Thanks!

No answer from Dave yet. He must be working hard on his Corvette.
I was, but time for a glass of red now.
Tonight I got that number 1 passengers side bolt out that I snapped off the other day.

Just look at it! Boy did I ever have to wail on it!
Then I turned my attention to number 3 drivers side.
What a mission. But I got there in the end.

So, both number 3's are out and nuts and cages intact. 2 more scary ones to go. They are soaking. As is drivers number 4 which is showing no sign of movement.
Hoping yours is coming together Dave.

UPDATE - one side is all back in with new bushes. Not bolted up yet.

Second side is jacked up and the bushes are now out. Tomorrow night I will clean up the mounts and paint them with fish oil.

Im still waiting on the body protector mount for the drivers side but I can continue with the other bits.

4 Vettes the little plate I cut is 6cm x 6cm with the edges cut off. Not perfect but it fits in there.

Old mounts and new

l

can anyone tell me what this is? I found it up on the chassis rail.

I'll google it and figure out what 6cm ×6cm means.
as per the switch. I've owned a 77 for 35 years and I am not recognising it. Where on the car? Photos are unclear as per location. Left hand front behind front wheel alarm switch, but doesn't look like my alarm switch. Sort of looks like backup switch but not really.

I ordered both number 4 reinforcements and a complete body mount bushing kit. Tracking says its made it to N.Y. it'll be awhile before I see any parts. But hopefully they should all arrive together.
Dave what are you using in the body alignment holes? I brought home 2 5/8th's drill bits that fit rather snuggly. I have heard of everything from wooden dowels to 5/8th's round stock.

LOL, sorry I just went straight to metric.

You could be right. It’s on the drivers side and was sitting up on the chassis rail behind the wheel.

I found it as I was removing the steering box to get the rag joint out

Removing the steering box to disconnect the rag link?
WOW, that sounds extreme.
How about remove the 2 rag link bolts. Remove the upper link bolt on the column. Wedge a screw driver in the slot to open it up. Then slide the upper half of the rag link up the column shaft enough to clear the safety pins. Done.

I started that way but I couldn't get clearance to get it out so I just undid the 3 nuts and moved the steering box out the way. Took about 5 mins in total.

Sounds like you didn't bother with the Pitman arm.
so you didn't remove the steering box. Just moved it forward. OK. but I've been in here a few times myself. Just recently rebuilt my steering box. Sliding the rag link is the way I will go. But as they say. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

So whatever that thing is the wires run up the back of the engine and join this connector which has one green and one red with white tracer wire on the other end that run back into the wiring loom.

I’m intrigued. It’s going to keep me awake tonight now

So I’ve worked out it’s the reversing light switch.

Now to find out where it goes and how it works!

OK, tryed to get some photos but some idiot put an exhaust pipe right in the way. These are the best I could do.

From directly underneath.

Looking between the floor pan and the pipe.
I know there not great.

I was able to remove both of my number 2 mount bolts tonight. I have all the scary ones out and caged nuts still intact. Did some work on drivers side number 4. It will need to be cut. And it looks like fibreglass work on that one as well. Last I looked my parts are at JFK airport. Hopefully loaded on a plane soon. Still have to unhook everything else. But started with the dreaded body mount bolts. I'm right behind you Dave.

That answers two questions.

My reverse gear shift link was home made and what I found was the reverse light switch which was attached to the shift lever.

I’ve connected it all back up now and once the car is back together I’m sure I’ll find out what they disconnected it and made a home made shifter!

Well done on getting the scary mounts out without breaking them.

Im just waiting for the left hand rear body cover now and it all starts to go back together.
