I was hoping to get some feedback about the best location for mounting the rear view camera on a c3. I'm reluctant to place it in the center of the license plate opeing since it will obstruct the light above the plate. Off center isn't ideal , but it seems the best option. I'm just curious what others have done. Thanks in advance for the input.
Depends on how big the camera is really.
Mines mounted beside the plate but it's a curb finder so not looking at what's behind me. No real reason it couldn't be a piece of angle instead of flatbar I guess.

Thanks Mooser. I think that's pretty close to where I'll put it on tomorrow. (Can't do it today: Valentine's Day and all) Mine looks to be about the same size and is on an angle adjustable bracket. I was concerned about that light blinding the camera.
Post what you do...I plan on mounting a warning device to the front grill & rear bumper of my car.
Instead of using a beeping device I have a set of 18 wheeler air horns using a 3 ft. distance warning blast

In all the years I've driven this car, both as a summer daily driver and now as a weekend toy, I've never caught the front on anything, usually too far away but (knock wood), never too close.
That said, I've got a fiberglass front spoiler hanging on the wall that hopefully will one day get fit, painted and installed and it's going to hang a lot lower than I'm used to so rather that using it as a curb feeler I installed a front one at the same time
When I bought my first C3 in 1977, I went to a supermarket parking lot and used a couple big (refrigerator size) empty cardboard boxes to practice.
I practiced safely bumping into the boxes over and over, then trying to part the car within an inch of the box without touching it. Got pretty good at it.
A couple of years ago there was a long running thread about mounting a rear view camera with a lot of feedback and discussion.
It was an interesting read with a bunch of different options.
I believe the OP recently posted his final mounting location and how he liked where and how he mounted it.
I don’t remember who the OP was or the thread name.
Sorry.

Thats how dinosaurs did it in the olden days.
That is actually a really good idea. It's all about the sight picture/muscle memory.
How about something like this? Before you go ugh, the entire bracket mounts BEHIND the license plate with only the camera peeking over the top.
Got this setup on wife's car.

Several backup camera sellers on ebay include this bracket/camera but pretty much none of the sellers describe the placement behind the plate.
When I bought mine I just happened upon a pic that showed it. Until then I was unsure of even doing the camera install.
I got a storage customer right now that I need to point this out to when he picks up his car as he has this bracket over the plate.
My only concern about a centered placement would be that it'd be directly under the light. I gotta figure that this would not be ideal. i still haven't gotten to it. It seems like something is ALWAYS getting in the way of my garage time.
Never even thought about license light when I installed on wife's Malibu.
Never noticed any interference with the camera.
Camera light (only on when reversing) pretty bright, maybe overpowers any light from license light.
Here's where it sits right now. TEMPORARILY. I hate the way it looks here.
The left side of the light has a bolt that made for an easy attachment point so I could run the wire and check the visual. I'll push it further back so it's under the plate surround and not so obvious peeking out at everyone. I wanted to see if being off centered would bother me and if there was any effect by the light being so close and/or directly overhead if I center it later.
I can see in the pics that I really will need a new plate surround at some point. That pitting is UGLY.
