Good morning. Rejoined this morning. Looking for a little advice. I have a 1968 corvette, tobacco interior and bronze exterior. Want to change the exterior to Toyota red. (Very bright red) Otherwise something in an orange. Opinions? Appreciated.
I really like the Corvette Bronze.
It's a rare and unique color to see these days and looks very sharp among an ocean of Blue, Black and especially Red Corvettes. Tobacco is a pretty dark Brown, unlike Saddle. Personally I think it will be a poor combination. But hey, it's your car so do what you please.
Thanks CorvetteMike. Couldn't find an example of the tobacco interior and red exterior on the internet so waffled a little. I've had 2 other vettes and painted both red.

Bronze/Tobacco is a great color combo for your car. But, "earth" colors are a bit dated by today's standards. If you don't love the original color and you don't think you're going to lose financially with the color change, make it into what you really want.
P.S. Not to hot on the Tobacco interior with bright red paint, though.
It's the OP's car so he can do whatever he wants, but since he asked us for input.... I do not think red or orange is a good combination for Tobacco interior. You can catch a glimpse of what red/orange looks like from this thread, and it's a real eye sore:
It's not a complimentary color combo, IMO, and doesn't look natural to the car. In 1968 GM offered two exterior colors with Tobacco (RPO 435), probably for a reason (hopefully to protect buyers from bad combinations) - Polar White and Tuxedo Black. Bronze wasn't even an option in '68, but that would certainly look better than red or orange. Tobacco is such a unique interior color, and it makes it very difficult to find tasteful exterior colors to compliment. White would likely pop pretty nicely.

Hmmm? My sources show Tuxedo Black, Polar White and Corvette Bronze (Code 992) were available with the Tobacco interior for 1968.
I’ve never seen tobacco interior, but I would think that bronze would go good with it.
I would also agree with white, black and wonder how a pale shade of yellow would look?

Here's a nice example of the Tobacco interior. It's pretty sharp looking. I think you're right, a pale yellow could work with it too. I'm surprised they didn't offer it with the Safari Yellow for '68.
OP, please post a photo of your car. I presume your bronze and tobacco look as shown. I’ve seen only one ‘68 bronze in person, and that was at a car show last year.
As you asked for opinions, mine is that you forego red and orange altogether (unless it’s a deep Ruby red), with that interior. A more tan or palomino would be great combinations, but not that tobacco brown.
It sounds as if you don’t like the bronze at all, and want to change it. If that’s the case, and we can’t talk you out of it, agreed that gold or yellow would look good as exterior colors.
I’ve seen photos of a Porsche and an Audi with a deep blue exterior that matched with chestnut brown interior.
Yeah, WB Yellow looks pretty good. I was going to recommend Riverside Gold as well, but decided not to. Riverside Gold and WB Yellow are so hard to tell apart, I think either would be complementary to the Tobacco interior, but as another member mentioned earlier, those are rather dated colors. My '69 was originally Riverside Gold, and I'll never go back to that color.

I stand corrected. Yep I see it. Looks like 3,374, or roughly 12% were ordered in that color. And you could get interior colors in black, dark orange, or Tobacco. Apologies for the original error. I really like that Tobacco color. A relatively hard color to match up with a compatible exterior, but it pops.
I know this is going to draw some raised eyebrows, but It could also work with dark brown exterior (RPO 69 from '76), or similar shade of brown.. Red/Red and Blue/Blue are such awesome combinations in the chrome bumper years. Why not Brown/Brown?

A dark green would look great with Tobacco interior. Around 2014-15 there was a C7 Corvette produced that was dark green with a dark brown interior that looked fantastic.

Funny you mention this.
I know Brown gets overlooked a lot but I totally agree with you, a matching interior would work very well. I was stopped at a traffic light last week, right next to fairly new import crossover (I forget the make) that was painted a very rich shade of Brown with a pretty heavy metal flake. The color was outstanding and I remember thinking "That color would be great on a Code 69 '76!"

Indeed. Many of the Euro Imports use brown metallics, and they are lovely.
