Hi. some update form my car. I did apply Lars' recommandation in term of advance settings plus Carb adjustment and idle is now really smooth, the smoke is definitely less loaded in gas, and you feel the engine run much much better.
looking forward a better weather to hit the road.
one question though, I get the original exhaust which seems to be 2". I read somewhere that the 68's got 2 1/2"....any thought if with a 2 1/2" exhaust the gas-flow would be better improving engine breath ? thks

2.5" exhaust is an excellent upgrade.....going to 64-65' 2.5" outlet rams horn manifolds is even better.....Long Tube headers even better than that....

yes 2.5 inch exhaust will help our exhaust flow better. depending on your HP level, 3 inch would be better. 62-65 had a 2.5 inch ramshorn manifold stock but 68 did not. If you are going to stick with Ramshorn pay a shop to port match them and port the entire exhaust manifold

I would say you are probably still okay. 3 would be better. I wish i could go to 3 myself at just over 500hp but my sidepipe choices limit me....i may try to slip in an electric exhaust cutout just after the collector if i go to the track.
Think of it as you are walking around breathing through a straw...no problems just at a relaxed pace but when start to exert yourself not only do you want to inhale big gulps but you want to exhale just as fast and just as much..so you would look for a gardenhose.... You start to run you are going to want a firehose.
Not only is getting a lot of air and fuel into your cylinder important...you have to get it out just as fast so you can get that next cycle of fuel back in....good flowing cylinder heads and a good exhaust are about the two most overlooked and important parts of making power in a motor.
