Need to replace the quadrajet on my 1972 454. (old one has been rebuilt twice and is just worn out). What are pros and cons of new vs. factory rebuilt?
They don't make "new" quadrajets, and a factory rebuilt unit is likely to be assembled from a haphazard collection of incorrect parts.
Send it to @lars, or perhaps look for a rebuildable core to send him instead. I think a worn throttle shaft is fixable, but I'd post some photos and ask first.

You can't buy a new Q-Jet, and there are no "factory rebuilt" Q-Jets. (The "new" Chinese made Q-Jets are complete junk and will not run out of the box without major machining and rework operations). "Commercially rebuilt" Q-Jets are complete and total junk. The '72 454 Q-Jet is a very rare carb, and cannot be replaced. It needs to be repaired by someone who knows what they are doing at any cost. Your carb, if correct and original, is worth around $2K. There are no replacements. You're dealing with a rare antique a half century old. There are no new parts, and the "factory" isn't making, rebuilding, or servicing parts anymore. Pony up and pay what it takes to own an antique.
Holley makes a spread bore Q-Jet replacement carb but they discontinued the 750cfm model......the 650 that is available will not have a fuel curve anywhere near what it is supposed to have for a 454ci engine.....it could be jetted to work, but that would need to be done by knowledgeable tech......well versed in carbs and tuning......
Send the carb to Lars above....he can and will restore it to factory spec.......nothing will run better on your 454.....

All I need are some good photos of the carb and a carb number....
What's wrong with the carb? What's "worn out?" Is it not actually the correct carb..?
