Far from perfect, but perfect from afar; and that’s all we can ever hope for.
A few hours and a few glasses of whiskey got quite a bit of build up removed. Tomorrow will be the trial of putting everything back together. Fingers crossed i took enough pictures of everything to get this back in one piece on the first try.
Slowly making my way through my to do list, that will surely grow as i continue to work on the vehicle.
I've just been reading this. I also just recently acquired a 77 Corvette. (Approximately 38 years ago). Normally I'm constantly working on mine. (It never ends). This week I've been a bit off my game.
Lots of threads on here with advice on replacing intake manifolds, burping the cooling system, etc.
Congratulations on your new tattoo, seems everyone and their wife who have side pipes sport the same tat!
My old wreak.

I’ve definitely been reading through a few peoples posts on that, definitely helpful! Beautiful car, thats the pristine paint job I hope to get to one day. Gotta get it off the jack stands first though.
First carburetor I’ve ever rebuilt actually went a bit smoother than anticipated. Lots of second guessing myself and a half dozen Edelbrock Rebuild videos later and voila!
The difference in how clean everything was is great, also found that the secondary weighted flapper was actually rusted and not freely moving which definitely didn’t help my idling issue.
Resetting the floats to correct heights of 14/32nd at bottom and 30/32nd drop. Will say that the gaskets on this kit did not install as seamless as I’d hoped. Ended up grabbing an exacto knife and the sharpest pair of scissors I could find to trim out small pieces and make sure all the holes aligned properly. Guess thats just what you get from a $19 rebuild kit.
Now it’s a waiting game for the rest of the parts. So I started another side project, repainting the underside of the hood while i have it pulled off. Base coats of high heat primer put on, just need to grab some high heat matte black for the final coats
Look up and do a search for forum member “Lars”.
He published papers on setting up the carbs and timing on our cars.
He doesn’t work on Edelbrock carbs but he still is the guru for everything carb and timing related on our corvettes.
Contact Lars and make sure to get an original copy of his papers from him personally.
There are several copies out there that aren’t his and there are things in the copies that are not correct.
Lars is the greatest guy and willing to help everyone.

Thanks for the lead! I’ll definitely reach out before putting everything back together. Unfortunately timeline is pushed out because the wrong manifold was sent….

* WOW * first rebuild, bigger ***** then me !! Too many things & very little things like springs & screws for my patience level. I would have just bought a brand new carb from Ms. Holly & dumped Mr. Edel & Mrs. Brock .............. Keep up the good work !!!

You know, shockingly not as complicated as i expected. Only two moments of panic, one when i put the jets in backwards and couldn’t get the top back on (easy flip flop) second was when i dropped one of the throttle linkages and it managed to bounce across the entire garage.
I did have that conversation with myself about switching over to a Holly four barrel. Who knows, I might put it on and it doesn’t work at all haha
Stole an idea from another member for T-Top storage, but put my own twist on it. They had made essentially a 2x4 sawhorse to store the tops in vertically like this. I decided to dust off some wood work skills and some spare 3/4” ply from a cabinetry project and I’m honestly very happy with the results. Looks clean and adds a bit more decor to the garage.
Also finished up the underside of the hood with some high temp gloss enamel.
I wrote out the measurements for the T-Top holder. If anyone wants them send me a message, it’s a very quick build and I used some French cleats for easy removal of the whole unit from the wall.
(Please be kind about the current status on the drywall. It’s about 40 years old and is going to be replaced eventually)
Amazed, at how fast you hit the ground running. I wish I had a garage... even a carport... I've got a gravel driveway surrounded by 5 sketchy trees that will crush my vette at any second.

Got the summer off work, gotta get as much done before I get back into the swing of things and don’t have time for it!
Also super blessed to have a garage. The past 5 years ‘ve been building my trucks in apartment parking lots!
Very hopeful the next 3 weeks are productive enough to have a vehicle i can drive in on occasion! (25 minute commute on the high way each way, got some work to go haha)

Like the custom wall unit ............ can't see from the photos, but what exactly is holding your tops in place & don't reply "BRA" .................!!!

Just bought a runner for a dining table and stapled/glued it down!
While I had the valve covers off, decided to give the tarnished aluminum some love. Prepped with some 400 and 800 grit sandpaper, a couple of liberal coats of 2000 degree primer and fresh red engine enamel. Ready for a the polished aluminum intake manifold to really dress everything up!

Sweet, while your dressing things up, you might want to use some of this dressing on your headers. This stuff is super easy to apply & looks great !!! "CALYX"

I have never heard about this but im definitely willing to give it a shot! Think that could make my crusty master cylinder look a lot better too
