I recently purchased a 69 BB and want to put 18" Torq Thrust wheels on it with 255/45R/18 tires. They only come with 4.5" back spacing. Will this set up fit without modifying anything? Also, are the original 15" rally worth anything?
Be very careful and find some a shop to help you "test-fit" the rims for you. I have a 1968 BB C3 and it is very tight up front. I am also using stock trailing arms not the offset ones. I do use 550 lb springs in my front end because of the 427 and this raises it up a tiny bit.
There are lots of people with aftermarket wheels and I were to replace mine I would probably go that same route, just so you can buy a good performance tire for the Corvette. Finding a good sticky tire this size has been harder and harder. Bigger rims that fit perfectly are the best option for being able to buy a good quality tire.
I have a 1988 C4 and it came with the 17" rims. That car uses some very wide tires front and back. The last time I bought tires I paid $1300-1400 for 4 tires. The tires for that C4 are still very expensive because of the particular size.
