Hey folks, I find myself looking for a passenger side mirror on my 69, is it a horrible thing to put one on. Not concerned about winning trophies. Just used to driving with one. Got it for a Christmas present. Just love it.

Nice Corvette!!
And i vote yes for an outside RH mirror. If you are going to drive it, I believe it is a good safety feature to have.
Hello,
There have been a few threads lately about adding the right side mirror.
Folks have raised the issue about the glass used in the mirror.
Apparently some mirrors are made with the normal mirror glass and NOT the "objects in (the) mirror are closer than they appear" glass.
This makes the mirror not very useful and maybe even dangerous.
Careful!
Regards....
I added one to my 69 convertible strictly for safety since most of us have grown into having the added feature on more modern vehicles. the fact that it adds symmetry to the appearance is an added feature, lol. Alan, i disagree with it being a dangerous addition. seeing as much as possible around you and recognizing that there might be something on the right side should only cause additional caution. if something appears in the mirror you should be exercising caution regardless. just my opinion however.
In the many previous threads you should take particular care in noting the “useable mounting location” of the passenger side mirror.
Some people mount them in alignment with the drivers side mirror for looks which makes using the passenger side mirror absolutely useless.
Many people mount the passenger side mirror at the same location of the 81-82 C3 passenger side mirror for the best results.
On my 73 it was a dealer installed option.
It was in alignment with the drivers side mirror and was pretty much useless.
When I painted my car, I had the body shop move the passenger side mirror to the 81-82 location and fill the original mounting holes.

Actually, with all due respect, it's not the standard mirror glass (rather than the convex mirror glass) that's the problem but how the mirror is adjusted. Most people adjust the mirror to look down the side of the car rather than adjust it farther out so you can see vehicles in the right hand lane. Google how to adjust mirrors for blind spots.

Again, with all due respect, I disagree. It's all in the adjustment of the mirror.
I just watched this guy mount one using the supplied template. Your saying not to use that ?
I know there were several templates floating around some work some don’t.
I would do some research into the older threads from a few years ago and see where people were measuring and drilling the holes.
Before you drill, I would lay some painters tape on your passenger side door, have someone hold the mirror against the tape and using the template, mark the hole locations, then double and triple looking into the mirror from the drivers seat.
I think by moving the mirror location about an inch forward it makes a big difference in the side view.
If I remember correctly the big issue is that in the factory mounting position, the passenger side rear fender blocks much of the view, but by moving the mirror forward it helps correct the issue, but don’t quote me on that, DO YOUR RESEARCH AND TRIPLE CHECK BEFORE YOU DRILL!
Again, with all due respect, I disagree. It's all in the adjustment of the mirror.
I don’t disagree with you but there have been numerous discussions about the placement of the passenger side view mirrors and how relocating them improves the use of the mirror so when properly adjusted you get full vision with out the rear fender obstruction.

I installed mine with the template that was in the box with the mirror. Guess what, I can't see the right side of the car like the drivers side. So yes placement is key. My car needs a complete paint and body overhaul so no biggie at this time, but will triple check before reinstalling after paint work.
DUB (RIP) posted a really great method for installing the RH outside mirror awhile back instead of using the rubber well nuts the vendors supply. Basically you make a backer plate drilled and tapped for the mirror base screws just like the LH mirror. The trick to installing it is to fish tape your new backer plate thru the outside door handle hole since you can not get to the backside of where you need fasten your new plate. Works great and better than the rubber well nuts. You can do a search for more info. Thanks DUB!
I mounted mine using the template provided which is exact to the drivers side and works great, I can see the lane to the right of me while driving and I can back my car out of the garage even when my wife doesn't park my truck correctly in the driveway and navigate just fine backing up along side my truck without turning my head backwards... just a flat mirror and I can adjust to see to the rear right side just fine

Totally agree. In high school Drivers' Ed class (way back in 1971), we were taught how to adjust the outside mirrors. The procedure is the same for any size car. If you can see your car fender in the mirror, they are adjusted too close. They should be set out to see the other lane while you are facing forward, and you must move your head slightly out to be able to see your fender.
I’m with you c3 stroker, I need to see what’s in the lane beside me. One thing everyone seems to agree on is that it is a matter of safety over originality. I will however use the template so the mirrors are symmetrical. Thanks all for a spirited debate.
To me doesn't matter if it is right for the car(born with or without) it just doesn't look right with one mirror. I like the balanced look and added safety of a right side mirror. Both my C3's present and past have had two mirrors.
