It's alive!!
Finally got the distributor in! I had to twist the housing to get it in...
The engine fired on the first turn of the ignition key.. I let it run for 10 seconds and shut it down.. It was too late in the evening and I didn't want the neighbors to call the cops on me.. The idle was also pretty high....
I'll set the timing tomorrow and adjust the idle... I hope to get the driveshaft in too so that I can take her for a spin... I won't go too far because the differential is shot and occasionaly locks up

Glad to read that you finally got it fixed. What was the problem with the distributor that it would not drop all the way in. You wrote that you had to twist the housing, is that the main barrel/shaft of the distributor?

Kdf, yes, I twisted the barrell/shaft... Oil pressure built up immediately when I fired up the engine, so I know that the distributor is in right!
I also got it perfectly pointing to #1

That's great news, congrats. Don't be causing any earthquakes with that new engine.
