I wonder what peeps would be saying if we'd started off with a bunch of different sections & were told that everything was going to be dumped into one large section?

Like asking what peeps would say if they were told they would have to give up their cars to go back to horses.

Only thing a horse is good for:

Well, I disagree that you have showed "proof" that keeping it as is is better. You have definately given your opinion as to why you think it is better.

Again, while still not proof, during the last split argument, I "categorized" the then current first page and found that the posts were just about 50/50 general/tech. I'm sure you could see the time savings this could provide for someone who only cares about "general" or "tech" stuff.
My reply is:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1547803286

as i have said before...its as simple as going to the other sections and see how many general posts are in tech and how many tech posts are in general...
ITS THAT SIMPLE...
the hardest part will be to admit that it is true and a split will not really accomplish what you think it will...
I really don't like the argument that "people will post in the wrong section". While I do admit that this will happen, who is losing in this situation? The person who posted (a topic in the non-ideal section). Sorry if I sound a bit cruel, but I don't really care and I certainly do not believe we should NOT split to accomadate them. I also believe that about 10% - 15% of the posts will be in the wrong section. I believe this would still be better (for me) than what we currently have.

Anyway, I did go through all of the posts you had on page 4 from the C5 section and here are my comments about them:
There are 70 posts on a page using the default forum settings.
You listed 7 "general" posts that belonged in "tech".
You listed 17 "tech" posts that belonged in "general".

Well, I'm basically with you on what was posted in general but belongs in tech. So, the C5 General has about 10% possible tech posts. To me, this is acceptable.

For the tech posts that you feel belong in general, I disagree with the following:
Doug Rippie Headers, anyone have any experience with them?
****Killer up grades Till March**** [a thread about a bunch of "mods" for sale. This would appeal more to the tech-minded.]
Vortech Supercharger Super Sale! [see above]
playing burned CDs - it don't do it no more [I believe this belongs in the same section as the "My Keyless entry thing sucks whats going on?" that was in general you classified as tech]
Check Engine light on...what's this gonna cost? [provided code and asked what to check. Sounds tech to me]
QTP C5 Tri Y Header Special [again, supporting vender selling mods]
Wheels question...... [asking for offset, not just style]

So, under my interpretation, the C5 Tech has about 10 "general" posts out of 70, which again, is in the (upper) range I expect. Still, for the type to only read the tech section, it would weed out about 40 posts for that they would have to weed out after reading as well as giving 40 more tech posts on the first page.

I also believe alot of the examples given are borderline which would get about the same results posted in either section.

the hardest part will be to admit that it is true and a split will not really accomplish what you think it will...
To be honest, I'll be satisfied with it if all it does is get the OT postings in the general section as well as the majority of the "chatty" threads.

So, what will you consider a failure?

I totally agree.

I visit www.z28.com for info on our Z/28 and T/A. They are split up well and don't have 1/2 the traffic we have on this forum. What's the down side???

It probably gets more responses in the same way that a locked thread gets a ton of views... Or when there's a huge back up on the highway because there was a wreck. People think that they're missing out on something & want to add their 2 cents even though the question was answered in the first post.

The tech thread is different because while people are interested in the content they may be unsure of what to post in case its wrong making them look stupid/foolish or both in the eyes of others. For those folks it would be better if there was a knowledge section that they could consult before replying in a thread. There are some great DIY install threads out there drifting aimlessly that need to be put in a section where they can be accessed.
