They complained in the middle of the DAY?

sounds like someone's wife or GF was annoyed by it, complained incessantly to her husband and the husband called the cops because he was too embarassed to say anything to ya.

( I USED to be married to a woman like that. When I started telling her it was too bad, there were no laws being broken, is when things started going down hill)

Most places from 7am-11pm anything goes, except for dynomite.

I try to shut my car down by 9am. Unless I'm coming home from the Corvette Challenge in Jupiter, then I'm rolling in after midnight. But I pull in the garage and shut it down.

Guess I'm old school on this topic or something. If some neighbor of mine was revvin' their chamber-exhausted BBC at 10:30pm, I'd be tempted to call the cops on them as well (after talkin' to them in person of course).

Bottom line... if you live in a residential area, you should be cognizant of the fact that other people may not want to hear your car (or mine) rumbling at all hours. We all need to be considerate of the people who live around us... something we all (myself included) forget all too often. Just because you think it sounds cool doesn't mean everyone else does. Doesn't make them a jerk or anything necessarily (that's dependent on how they handle the situation, and a lot of other things). Generally I agree that during the 8am-5pm timeframe, most bets are off as most everyone is gone to work during those hours. But the last thing most people want to hear when they get home from work or at night, or whatever... is some neighbor revvin' his 454 for 3 hours straight. (or his dog barking, in my case)

If you think you're entitled to making all the noise you want, move out into the country where no one can hear it.

And, in most places, that sort of noise IS illegal. I'm not sure where some posters are living where there are no noise ordinances.

Come on by, you can see this most wanted noise machine.Like I said I dont even cosider this guy a neighbor. He lives in a completely diff sub division divided by a busy street.I would gladly give him a ride. There is no noise law here between 8 am and 10 pm.Im not trying to upset anyone but damn I work 50 to 60 hours a week mon thru fri and weekends are for whatever I feel like doing.I dont complain about everyone mowing there lawn sunday mornings or all the other weekend projects people come up with.If this guy keeps causing **** Im going to have my buddy start having his harley club meetings at my house every weekend. 50 or more rad bikes that will wake him up.we call them bankers on bikes, most make big money and get wild on the weekend. This guys never even heard my car loud,8000rpm under full load then he would have something to complain about.

We are not talking about 10:30 at night or reving for 3 hours. We are talking about 10 minutes at 2 oclock in the afternoon. The only thing I can think of is it was Sunday and some people still go to church and come home and spend a quiet relaxing sunday. I don't but then again other the weddings and funerals I never enter the church.

a neighbor across the street at least 200yards away complains about the noise
was the ground wet - possibly from a recent rain shower? I ask this because wet grass EASILY conducts sound. Dew covered and snow covered ground does the same.
If I know the weather conditions favor sound reflection/conduction... I will try to limit my noisy activities.

Default Cut me some slack!

So you get hammered by Mr. Wilson for warming-up your car and leaf blowers run rampant accross the country 24/7! It would be interesting to know the difference in decibel levels between the "music" from your Vette and the "whine" of your local "Hard-Working Amigo's" toxic-twister-petro-boom-broom!

Neighbors that go to the cops/city before making their request in person are cowards.

Good luck!

Well I certainly agree in that instance. 10 minutes in the middle of the afternoon... the neighbor can suck it.....

When the officer showed up and said good afternoon my wifes friend said depends on what you want? At the time my wife her friends and half a dozen kids were playing on the side of the house. He said I bet that cars pretty loud, I said no worse than the harleys running all hours of the night and I dont run it very long and only between 9 am and 8 pm most of the time.Thats when he told me of the complaint . I started it and he said it was loud but he loved it. It was his unfortunate job to show up even though he said unless the complaintant files and signs a complaint there is nothing he can do.Then you would go to court in front of a judge. If that happens I will
try my case.

In my small village we have 4 very bad cars. A high compression 427 camaro, a 52? HEMI cuda , a highly modified viper and my car. Listening to those other guys fire their cars and the hemi cuda is famous for going the local garage and the owner dumps water down on the highway in front and he does a massive burnout and leaves town. I love it and the minute I hear this music I head outside and just soak it in. It is music to me.
But what if a neighbour took to playing a tombone or something and I all I could here when eating a nice supper on the rear deck with my wife is this idiot playing his tombone.
It would get to me, it is not music to my ear and I could get ticked off and try to cause trouble.
Because something is music to our ears doesn't mean it is someone's elses cup of tea.
We have just got to try and be tolerant and remember the cop is just doing his job, he might not agree with it but he must bring the compaint to you . BE nice, agree, smile, say your sorry and try not to carry a grudge.
I know it is hard, been there, done it but carrying a grudge is harder on you then the other guy.
Let it go. Looks like the guy didn't sign the complaint.

Norval he hasnt signed a complaint yet. I also havent started my car again. Next nice weekend I will . Then we will see if he wants to push the issue.Im not going to be held hostage not being able to do what I want. I will be as quiet as possible but you know you have to work on these things and you cant just start up and go without getting some heat in the engine.

That sucks...Around here you can't hardly get a cop to respond to a burglury...They would have a good laugh at a noise complaint.

I don't know why so many of you are being so polite. This guy was being a jerk to you...so why do you owe him any courstesy or respect??

1. Find out exactly what your noise ordinance is
2. Live within the law
3. Give that guy the hardest time you can and make his life hell

People need to be taught that bieng an @$$ is wrong. If you don't make him sorry, he'll think that he won and that it is acceptable to act like that. Then, hell be able to act like a jerk whenever he wants. In fact, he will be an empowered jerk.

By getting back at him you will be helping not only yourself, but society.

But hey, I'm Italian, I do things differently, LOL!

Bah, this is pretty minimal. If he is walking around all proud of himself for this, let him. Next time he tries to get a rush by calling the cops and it backfires, he'll fall harder. I wouldn't let it change what I do if it isn't illegal. Maybe if he complains again you should drive the car over to his house and have a friendly chat about what the problem is. He'll probably freak out a bit as he hears the rumbling coming closer and closer until it is right outside the house. Then just introduce yourself, say that you understand that he has a problem with the noise. Explain that you mean no disrespect, but the law says this, and you're not doing anything wrong, but you're sorry for disturbing him. And if he is rude, walk away.

I'd also tell that cop " tell him to remember that I'll see him leaving court too."

That's the spirit!

Have Bruno and Sal stop by his house and see if the neighbor still has a problem.

Default Complaint

The so called neighbor has a burr up his butt for you. Let him sign a complaint and take you to court and prove you were violating local noise statutes. If he does not sign a complaint, ask the cops to inform him the meaning of filing a false police report.

What was the db level of the noise? The cops and the neighbor can not prove that nor do they want to spend the time and money to do so. Judges throw stuff out everyday without any viable proof. Then politely ask your neighbor to read the dictionary definition of harassment and the covenent of right to free enjoyment of your property. Any further issues like this will be responded to in a suit.

Sorry for the long reply but I get smoked from pain in the *** neighbors that have nothing else to do but harass others.
