You could pick one of them up in the c4 for sale section i would imagine,if your using everything factory then yes you would use it.Remember always ask first ,plenty of good guys on here to help out.
I was down a a Pick-A-Part junkyard this weekend grabbing odds and ends to complete my system. There were plenty of ESC modules, O2 sensors of the 1- 3- and 4-wire variety, as well as countless relays (at $.99 a pop). If you've got one near you, it may be worth the trip. I know I'll wind up buying a brand new O2 sensor at some point, but at least for inital setup, I like the idea of saving money on this stuff. I also like yanking parts off of cars, so that could explain it too.
Just curious. Why would you add an external if you have one in the tank. You would be better off removing the existing pump and install a hp pump for the TPI. I just got finished installing a 88 TPI in my 66 roadster. Backed it up with a 700 R4 (car was automatic) an man what a difference.Cruising at 70 mph at 2000 rpm's. Now I can here my radio over the side pipes.
Do you have an electric pump now? if you do then just need to buy a walbro 190 or 255 pump and install it where the other one is.I thought only the 82's had the low pressure pump for the crossfire setup. If yours is an 80 then youll need the 82 sending unit and install the better pump.
yeah I was looking at getting a walbro or the like and attach it to underside of the car on the frame maybe. Now I just need to find a 82 sending unit. .....anybody got one??
That harness should work fine. I had to do some modification to my '85 harness, which is different than 86-89 MAF harnesses. I'm using the '86-89 computer which is better than the '85. You may want to do some modification as well, depending on whether you need to retain emissions equipment, and whether you are going to use the converter lockup function (on auto trans cars). I cut down on the rats nest of wiring in my harness by getting rid of EGR and evaporator wires, as well as all the automatic transmission wires. I also got rid of the cold start sensor and 9th injector wiring, which you can do too, if you reprogram your chip to use the '89 program, or buy a new chip. You'll need a blockoff plate for the 9th injector if you get rid of it completely. I have heard that you can tap the 9th injector hole on the runner for a 7/8 pipe plug and use that. A lot cheaper than buying the $50 kit from Accel.
Thanks for the infor thebruce. I will be using an 88 computer from a L98 Formula car. I dont plan on using any emissions or EGR or 9th injector either. Live in Florida, dont really need the cold start. I dont guess you have a pic showing which wires to get rid of do you?
Just recieved my TPI setup about 15 minutes ago. I took some pics of the sensors that came on it. I was wondering if somebody could tell me which ones I have.
you have throttle position sensor idle air control, coolant sensor and thermotime switch for the cold start valve. and the last pic is for the egr valve. The first pic i think was a vacuum switch for egr.
Thanks for the reply pat. I also just found this one on the underside of the plenum when I was taking it apart for cleaning.
Also, will this distributor work with my car? Its the one that came with the TPI setup. Or should I keep my old one. I see that the coil is separate from the dist.
