Ok, Norm, I'd bet that you would not gain more than a second with $20k.
Well, maybe for 1 pass before your differential craps out.
You'll have to expect to spend at least $5000 on rear end and rear suspension upgrades
$3500 for a purpose built tranny, $1000 for a legal 6-point rollbar, $300 for a shifter, $300 for a driveshaft (your aluminum shaft will not hold up to 600+ HP), $750 for a carb (your 750 will be too small), $300+ for a front suspension upgrade, $800 for lightweight wheels + big enough slicks. That'll leave about $7k - $8k for the engine.....
I'd like to see if somebody will build you a 650 HP engine for that kind of money... You'd need AT LEAST 650 HP to gain a second...
Let me know where you'd save the money to be able to spend more on the engine
I might wind up spending $25,000 with what I would do. But I would be in the 9's.
back-halfed with cage COMPLETE with wheels & tires $10,000
big block (pan-to-carb) $10,000
tranny $3000
mics. $5000 figuring high
I am NOT pulling these figures "out of a hat". I have spoken to people (fabricators & engine builders) in the past.
Norm, I never claimed that I'll be immediately in the 10's. It's a new setup and needs tweaking.. I'd bet you that I'll be in the mid 10's (10.75 or faster) this winter ON ENGINE ONLY!
I'll bet you $500!!
I say instead of rebuilding the motor spray it and pray. And anyways its not that hard to build a motor. If i put 10k into a big block it whould make about 900 horse. my uncles 600 big block make about 800 -900 he hasnt dynoed it or tuned it. he ran a 10.5 in a chevelle with no mods to lightin it.

Gotta eat ya know.
First of all 10.75 is NOT mid 10's (10.69-10.40). And I never said your Vette is NOT a 10 second car. DO NOT change around things I say. I just simply said (much earlier in this thread) how rediculous it is have a 6 cyl. O.D. tranny in a race car. And then you start bringing up my tranny (when I do not have a race car or as you call your car "PRO-STREET" which it is NOT)and now you wanna bet me your car is going in the 10's when I actually said "your car would have been in the 10's a long time ago with a TH400". "a long time ago" is a figure of speach hear in America and not telling you that you are/were on a time frame.
Again this is like trying to get a point across to you.
I know it is hard for "Engineers" to admit, not necessarily a mistake, but maybe a wrong turn. OH YES!! If you are such an Electrical Engineer why is the wiring in your Vette such a horrifying, disaster, that (I am sure) only you can know what is going on. And DO NOT give me the lame excuse "My car is not a show car". Even the MOST BUDGETED race car the wiring is organized and neat. Is your fuse box (which is under the hood exposed to the eliments) bolted down yet!!

for an optician, you don't see things too clearly.
I'll bet on the engineer any day.
everything you have said here is opinion. Learn how to think like an engineer. Try using logic.
I could be(but I'm sure I'm not) mistaken, but there are a few 9 second Grand Nationals that run 200R4's. Razzing him is one thing, but you are starting to trash on his car when he is one of the very few on here that give REAL data in regards to things he's done to his car. By the way, "Pro Street" is a rather loose term defined differently by different people. I'm not trying to add fuel to the fire, but don't be a dick.

Hmmm.. many 9 second cars use my tranny builders tranny...
It has great gear ratios and easily holds up to the power of my engine.
I did exactly the right thing for what I wanted to accomplish...
The funny thing is that I have success with my setup and you still insist that you are right... Just because most other people don't go the same route as I do doesn't mean that I do things the wrong way...
Like the lemmings.. One lemming jumps down the cliff and others follow.. Just because they jump doesn't mean that it's the only right thing to do... There are many ways to reach goals... My goal was to have a street drivable car that runs 10's at the track and 9's on spray (if I'll add it).. and the car will do exactly that.. End of discussion - period... At the end of drag racing season, I'll tune the car for pump gas and make a trip to Old Town to proof that the car is drivable on pump gas..
