Default modified shift points - track result.

I'm right now at the Corvette Challenge in Bradenton...
After my new governor refused to shift last Sunday, I replaced the spring in it with the spring from my old governor.
Just made my first pass with the modified governor. It shifts a little lower then I'd like the tranny to shift but 1000 rpm higher than it used to shift with the old governor. The tranny shifts now exactly at 6000 RPM (5000 with the stock governor).
I picked up over a tenth at the 1/8 mile and .15 at the 1/4 mile compared to runs in the same conditions. (88 degrees with high humidity)
Ran 7.11 1/8 mile and 11.23 1/4 mile @118.56 mph. That's great for a hot summer day.. With another 500 RPM higher shift points and the new intake which I'll install soon, I could hit 10's in summer...and mid 10's in winter

Well, I knew that the 5000 rpm shift point cost me big time... I still have no plans of shifting at 8000 RPM but 7000 seems like an option... I could pick up another tenth...

Ran my 2nd pass...
I spun, so my ET was only in the 11.30 range. However, my mph was at 120 mph which is incredible for a hot and humid day...

First I'm gonna try to get the shift point to 6600 RPM and see what will happen... I might then slowly raise it to see if and how much my ET's will improve...

If you originally went with a TH400 with a manual valve body you would have been in the 10's a long time ago. You have a tranny out of a 6 cylinder with overdrive. You have mentioned numerous times (since the "new set-up" is in) that you only drive to local cruise-ins and you do not drive the car long distances. What the hell are you doing with a tranny with O.D. I know your original intentions were different but now that things have changed get a TH400 (with a REAL trans-brake). BUT if you eat before your first run (with the TH400) you better be wearing a diaper.

I could've also gotten the TH200R4 with manual valve body. Other than strength, the TH200R4 beats the TH400 in every category:

1) lighter
2) eats less HP
3) better gear ratios

I'm not under time pressure to hit 10's.. There's no doubt at all that I'll hit 10's.. maybe even this summer. It will be possible to get the shift points where I want them and still will have a automatic valve body.

I also finally got some decent R/T's with my setup: .012, .061 and .077..
For the next months, I'll be tweaking engine and transmission..and I predict high 10's in summer and mid 10's in winter .
I'm extremely satisfied with my engine.. It's a real beast with a great power band . Except the shift point which I will get where I want it, I'm also very pleased with the TH200R4... Other than the shift point, the tranny is excellent. Love those gear ratios..
BTW, the new governor was modified for the spring not to pop out, so I won't have to worry about it to pop out .
So far, I have close to 40 passes on the 200R4 and it holds up excellent..

If you want to see it move, slap a glide with a 5500 stall and a brake in it and hold on for a ride.

The glide is a great transmission. However, the 1st gear ratio would cost me .1 - .2 at launch, even with the big converter.
If I would go with over 800 HP, the glide would be my choice... For my current setup, the TH200R4 is adequate.. It has held up good and should last for the rest of the seasn... It would be great if it would hold up for 2 seasons...

Ya, right now you are too heavy without enough power for a glide.

I'm always on the lookout for a tube chassis where I can drop my body and powertrain on... Having one build is too frigging expensive.. so, hopefully I'll run into a nice tubed chassis for my Vette

That would bring the weight down to 2000 lbs or so.. I've got a friend with a '78 tube chassis Vette that weights about 2000 lbs

He is running a glide and gets 1.40 60' times and low 10's on engine with about the same horsepower that I have...

you must not have been looking hard enough, there was a tube chassis on ebay not long ago and I tihnk it was on racing junk also ('t was a red car), why swap the body if you can find a tube chassis w/ roll cage and all, which would make swapping bodies extremely difficult. I'd just swap the driveline and be done with it.

I'm thrilled that the 200R4 is holding up. I have the Stage 3 from BTO, but haven't run it yet- Working on the 396 small block right now. Sounds awesome Oliver-congrats.

The frame is that heavy? I always thought its the thick fiberglass body that contributes to most of the weight.

Why didn't you get an aluminum block?

I can lift the frame all by myself, it's the suspension parts, the crossmember and the frame extension that make it heavy
