Tech vs. General Guidelines - Your Thoughts?
course, now days Texas, New Mexico and California are for all intents and purposes Mexico anyway.
This section should deal with any form of mechanical, electrical, chemical, and trouble shooting issues.
C3 GENERAL …I believe that discussion in this section should be practically unlimited, opinionated, and off the wall.
This is a good place to inquire about products, vendors, events, home workshop, ways to remove spiders, rats, snakes, dog puke, etc.
Caveat: We are a fraternity of Corvette enthusiast. We should provide support and guidance to our fellow members. None of us should encourage or tolerate any member acting like an Internet Troll.

Remember that your posts will eventually become part of the CorvetteForum archives. Be sure to post the final project results even if it is days, weeks, or even months later.
Try to provide clear accurate information as this will be helpful for those searching the archives in years to come. Also remember that if you show your ***, it will be documented forever in the archives. If you feel that your comments to another member may be viewed as being harsh or too controversial, send it to them via PRIVATE MESSAGE.
The "CF Junior member," "CF member," and "CF Senior member" label along with the "Member Since: ****" has nothing to do with ones knowledge or the quality of their contribution to the forum. It simply indicates the number of posts they have made and sign up date. Someone with a LOT more automotive/Corvette related knowledge than you have could sign up at any time. Try to avoid burning bridges you may need in the future with the "They're just-a-NEWBIE" mentality. The more Corvette Forum members we have the more powerful this information resource gets.
Chemical technical questions? What chemical stuff would be appropriate for technical? Certainly not that over-asked "which oil/gas/cologne/works best in my Vette?" question.
And that other laundry list of topics you list as apporpriate for General also DOESN'T belong there
That junk all belongs in OFF TOPIC. The General section is for General questions about the C3 ONLY. Not "what's the weather like in your state" or "does my new puppy look cool?". See...even the C3 General needs some patrolling
The touchy-feely "we are family" people have overrun the General section. That's WHY we wanted a Tech section in the first place!!!
As far as your explaination for what the stars and junior/senior member descriptions are concerned, you are accurate TECHNICALLY, but innaccurate in REALITY. Let them start taking those stars away and watch what happens to those people. They will throw a hissyfit the likes of which you have never seen before. Do you know how many posts my buddy Olivier had to make with nothing but a
or LOTS!!! No way would he like to see all those stars removed. Know how many times people have asked how they get more stars and become a senior member?? LOTS!!! So don't think for a minute that that stuff doesn't carry weight on the forum.
I got no gripe with newbies as long as they read and abide by the forum rules, or at least make the effort to do so. I have not seen that effort put forward lately and neither has turtlevette. That's why he wants to muzzle them until they do start conforming.
majic1984: If a thread got moved that shouldn't have, ask one of the mods for the explaination. They won't bite. At least, they won't CHEW

turtle: Don't link New Mexico and Texas with that crummy, liberal-infested Kalifornia!!!!

Either way, the split was good.

The forum would then become a reflection of DJ Dep's online personality.

Got a problem with someone? Send them a P.M. first. Still got a problem with them? Discuss it with a forum moderator.
ddecart created this thread to ask for opinions. I've posted mine.
Dep, if you weren't so darned thin skinned, you wouldn't feel the need to dissect my posts when they're not addressed to you.

Let's see.....
RAT502 seems to be Arnold Schwarzenegger in disguise.
HOORAY FOR KALIFORNIA AND IT'S WONDERFUL ANTI-C3 CORVETTE POLLUTION LAWS!!!! There ya go...happy?
MIKER says I dissected his post after he attacked my ideas about removing stars and treatment of new members. Then he proceeded to copy/paste the heck out of my thread. Practice what you preach!!

Oh yeah...Olivier (GrandSportC3) is a great friend of mine and we kid each other all the time on the forum. Not that I need to defend my statement, but just a clarification for the butt-in-skis.
That long list of "Chemical"
The archives!!!! Good golly...you REALLY must have an axe to grind with ol' Dep
Well I can't think of ANYONE including MODS who hasn't posted an occasional OT thread/reply in the C3 General section at some time in history. But starting an OT/non-Tech THREAD in the Tech section is something completely different.
And don't think I haven't been admonished for posting OT in the General section.
Since the "sarcastic ***-hats" wasn't aimed at me...I'll withold comment

Me be the judge and jury....hehehe...no thanks. I'll stick to assisting in enforcement. George and Dave do a very good job of deciding what stays and what goes. But they SHOULDN'T have to CONSTANTLY move non-tech posts. People need to THINK before posting is all I'm saying. Dealing with a boatload of new members who post *****-nilly all over the place is NOT something the mods should have to put up with.
All that schoolchild discipline you suggest is fine for a 6-year-old. I would hope that members of the forum would behave as ADULTS and that sending them to the principal would not be necessary.
I still stand by my recommendation of star removal and turtle's suggestion of restricting newbs to the General section until they understand what's what.

. I am glad for the split and it is a very good thing. DEP & TURTLE where very vocal for the split to happen. The moderators are doing a great job here. I also think the help they are getting from DEP & TURTLE to relocate certain threads that are posted in the wrong section is a good thing. They are taking this upon themselves so they will get some flack from the people who started the thread because those people all of a sudden get offened. Yes, DEP did jump in on a few threads and tell the people that the thread is in the wrong section. Whether that is right or wrong, for some reasons it is wrong and but for other reasons it's the best thing. I like people who are vocal and say what's on their mind (so if you wanna tell me to go to hell.... I'm already there
). I think DEP & TURTLE are doing a good job "police ing" the C3 section (whoever hired them anyway
). Seeing people can not hear voice tone on the computer, sure there will be some that get/have "thin skin".Well, all in all.... This is for you DEP & TURTLE
By the way...has anyone been over to the drag racing section lately. A third of those threads should be in "OFF TOPIC".
Example.. "Name my horse and get a $100 gift certificate"
or "I'm thinking of changing my name"
It seems like there is a "loop" of guys that have free run of the drag racing section.

Thank goodness they don't also believe Kalifornia is a good model for buying electricity.
Aren't we veering OT a bit???
