Default 1981 header question

On the pass. side there is some sort of vacuum thing on the side of the header itself. There is currently no hose conected. Anyone know what it is for and what it connects to and do I even need it.

uhh, you are talking manifold right? between the manifold and the exaust pipe?

its an emissions device to help the car heat up faster when its cold. vacuum is used to open it once the car warms up.

Probably EFE, Early Fuel Evaporation, heats intake manifold. Search on that.
Not needed in the south.

I don't remember where it connects, but I believe it was one of the 2 temp swiches that are in the water neck. If your emission sticker is still on your hood it will say on there. If you have an aftermarket intake or gaskets that blocks the crossover passage, don't connect the EFE

You'll also hear this refered to as a "Heat riser" sytems. As long as it's open, and without vacuum it should be, it should only affect performance when you first start it in cold weather. Not likely to be much of an issue for you.
