I finally took out the driver side seat today in my '78 project and decided to put the battery in and see what worked. Anywho, the wipers worked, but wouldn't turn off so I had to unplug them. Anyone know what could be wrong?
Perchance someone recently replaced starter? And, mistakenly put the wiper ground wire on with the battery cable instead of under the starter mounting bolt?
The wiper motor will run constantly (backwards).
I had a body shop guy do that. No wonder the battery wouldn't hold a charge.

On my '69 I had the same problem. It turned out that the harness plug at the motor (3 wires) had some dirty contacts. I guess it wasn't triggering the park relay. When I cleaned the contacts, everything was fine and the wipers stopped when I turned them off. Quite a novel feature actually.
Give that a try as it's quite simple and relatively easy to access.

The wiper motor always gets a "hot" feed anytime the ignition switch is in the "run" or "acc" position. The motor turns on when the circuit is grounded through the wiper switch. If there is a ground anywhere else, the motor will run. Remove the ground wire (wire going to the switch) and see if the motor still runs. If it does, the ground is internal in the motor. If not, the ground is in the harness or the switch.
Somewhere either the switch or motor is not getting a ground.
I had my wiper panal out the other day, the panal above the gauges and tried the wiper to make sure they were reconnected to the switch. Dame things would come on but would not stop when I turned them off.
After I reinstall the panal, they worked right and turned off. I'm guessing that the screws grounded the panal, When ever the panal down and not ground through the screw, it would not shut off, need a ground.
Had my (-82) switch out and opened it to try and fix pulse. Doesnt pulse at all, allways wipes undisrupted.
Had a few exciting moments when I thought I lost the little nickel-ball and spring that give preassure to the switch in different stops. When the ball and spring was taken out (Watch out, its very easy to loose them !) the switch traveled lower than ordinary and on that lowest point, where I first supposed the wipers would stop, it got power to the wipers. Lifted the switch a millimeter and wipers stopped. Found the ball and spring in the grass after neurvous search. Happy again ! But hell what a job just to get to the switchhouse. Had to dismount the dash !

BTW Has anyone a suggestion o how to fix a non working pulse without acctually buy the whole switch ? Looked but couldn´t find a way inside the turning copperresistance . Want to spray some antioxide on it and se if that make the trick. Peter
