Default Cam step down

My Edelbrock 7162 cam 560/573 lift 240/246 dur and 112 LSA has been nothing but problems from the start (see 2 recent posts by me). I'm thinking of taking it back a notch or two since this will be just a play car. What cam will give me decent overall performace for stoplight type racing (3.08 gears / auto). Converter is stock but can be changed. This car will never be a daily driver. Looking for recommendations for lift and duration -- I can read the books...but you guys have tried the cams. Lumpy idle is ok. 454 BB.

Since it's a play thing you might want to look into a solid flat tappet in the low 230's intake, high 230's/low 240's exhaust. On a 110 LSA it will lope some at idle. On a 112 LSA it will be pretty smooth. More lift is better, but make sure the springs can take it.

If you don't want to adjust the valves occasionally, a hydraulic flat tappet about 10 dgr smaller would work. You'll loose some top-end compared to the solid.
