Default Running Lean

My 75 appears to be running a little lean. I pulled the plugs the other day, and they looked dry and black. My question is, how do I monitor this, and how do I adjust this? It is the stock motor with an Edelbrock Performer cam, performer carb (600cfm), and performer intake. I think I can change the springs for the metering rods, but I am not sure which ones to replace them with. Any advice?

Dry and black is usually a rich mixture not lean.
I purposely run mine slightly richer in summer time and swap often.

Go to this site and read your condition...scroll down:
CARBON FOULED--Soft, black, sooty, dry-looking deposits

Yes, it is a site for bikes, but the same general idea.

If your plugs are black, you're rich, not lean.

How about I take a picture of one tonight and post? Can you tell from a good picture what condition they are in? I am used to computerized cars that tell me when there is a problem, or it is easy to monitor with my laptop.

My plugs are white. It is really not that easy to run too lean but the advantages of lean running is long life on the plugs plus a motor lasts alot longer.
I run my motor around 190 degrees, lots of timing and 15-1 on the fuel ratio gage.
Plugs??? Never bother changing them and yet I do spot checks all the time.
