Default BB alternator lower bracket w/o power steering

Can anyone address the question as to the application of the lower bracket for the alternator on a 69 big block without power steering. Specifically, the part made for autos without power steering is discontinued. Can a big block lower bracket with power steering be substituted? The plan is to add power steering next year anyway, but a not certain I can substitute one for the other. This is for a 454 big block going into my '69 coupe. Any advice will be appreciated.

69`s still have the short waterpump so you should be able to use the stock cast iron bracket that bolts to the left cylinder head. Early BB Camaros use the same bracket.

Thanks for info; please confirm we are talking about the lower alternator bracket. I'm trying to see what difference a short or long water pump has to do when ordering the lower alternator bracket for a big block with no power steering. Am I missing something?

I ordered one today from Billett Specialties. Summit has one as well. I really wanted one that would fit the driver's side but it was only offered in small-blocks. I like the way it mounts in front of the head instead of outboard on an arm with a brace bolted to the header.

You guys are not listening. 396/427/or 454 ect, in early Vettes, through at least 1970 use a short waterpump and there is no lower bracket, just the one that bolts near the front on the head by #1 plug. This is a factory bracket that works only with the short WP and pulleys.

Now you're cookin' with gas. That's a lower bracket for the alternator with a power steering option. I wonder, what difference does it really make whether you have power steering or not? A bracket is a bracket, ain't it? Wouldn't the bracket for a power steering option work on a car without power steering?

I was listening, I was just offering some nice aftermarket solutions. If he wants a stock bracket, call one of the many replacement part vendors. If not, there are options.

Well,it sure won't intefere with anything..and you will have it when you go to power steering....now wait till you select the power steering bracket....there are differences there too...been down that road...think w/wo A/C....?? Also, when you add power steering, you may have to change your alternator pulley...I did..got pics of that fiasco....

Update: Zip shows the product discontinued, as do four other vendors I've called today. None in stock. I may go ahead and cast my fate to the wind and try the bracket with power steering option for giggles and grins. Will let you know... Thanks again guys.

Seems we were talking about the same thing but the termenology got lost....

that bracket shown must be for a 69 and up, not anything like a 68.

The waterpump is not the short one for a correct 69 BB engined car. Therefore brackets may be somewhat hard to find. However original 69 parts would work with changing to the the short waterpump. Or, try 73 Chevelle`s BB`s parts as they use the long waterpump.
