Whew thank goodness ! I really thought you were in trouble but I kept my fingers crossed that I was wrong about the valves.Sounds good Great job----Now go have fun ,you deserve it you worked hard and probably sweated a bunch !!!
Cool man, glad to see you got it going!
I think your going to love it!
I added a 750 mec. sec. double pumper to mine too. And what a improvement! Was a bit rich but a little tunning and see's sweet as can be now!
I have a timing problem. With the vac advance off I set it to 6 but then when I give it a little gas it is sluggish and backfires. should I have my vac advance line on? I was gonna run without it.
Well it was Oct. 2004 when i did all that, so been a while.
Want to say we started around 12 deg. and tuned from there.
BrettMc helped me a Lot on the setup and he built the carb i have too!
I mostly ended up work'n the key and the 12 oz. lift's.
Best thing i can say is look at Lar's papers (The man know's his stuff!) for help there.
Make sure you dont have any vac. leaks, i had a problem with the carb leak'n between the base and the intake. I had to add a heat plate under it. But that was a problem from the protoform baseplate i used on the 750.
Ya, I am having some rough running problems. I'm gonna look around for some vac leaks and any other stuff that I may have missed. I'm hoping to get it figured out so that I can drive it to school tommorow for the last day.
When I give it a little throttle, it backfires and shoots fire out the carb. What is this a sign of? My initial timing is 8 adv. But I'm not sure if my harmonic balancer is very acurate. Also when I put it into gear it bogs down and dies. What could that be from.
Sounds like a timing issue to me. IMHO, try to start the initial timing around 12* - 14* like greyhook suggested, then go from there. Hang in there, you are almost there!!!!
Even with the timing at 12 - 14 it still will backfire on a hint of throttle. I've tried to get this thing timed for the whole day to no avil I've tried every number on the scale from 6-14. Three times with no luck. Any other ideas.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong (which I could be) but if the valves are still not adjusted correctly you could get a backfire like this eventhough the engin sounds good at idle.
I agree with dwncchs, do a compression test again. Make sure the compression is at the correct level and it holds up well.
