I am in the midst of a body off on a 71 4-spd small block roadster and the frame is junk. The rest of the car is real good and was a one-owner that was very well cared for.
1969 - 1973 will have the same style rear cross member for chrome bumpers, 1974 started using impact absorbers, and changed the rear cross member. All Manual trans have a bell crank mount, and a welded in trans crossmember, auto's have a bolt in cross member, and no bell crank mount, this can easily be added.
Also, 1973 started using rubber body mounts, so they have a slightly lowered mount points, but can be used
1968 early frames do not have support gussets on the kickups, so not desireable, but can be used
Haven't looked into it, but what about the tube steel frames advertised in Corvette Fever, etc. I think that if I ever did a frame-off that would be the way to go, since it should be modern day/hi performance technology.
I came across a frame at Rowley Corvette that is a modern interpretation of the C3 frame. It comes in either plain steel or stainless and they have a version that uses C4 suspension components. The main drawback of course is the price. The plain steel stock suspension frame costs ~$4,000.
