Where is the level on a cold 400 TH supposed to be. I remember there was a procedure in my 71 chassie manual. All books are in storage since house fire in april of this year. Anybody got it handy. Thanks, Robert

I don't believe that there is a "cold" level check on the THM400 dipstick. It is to be checked "hot". Since there is quite a bit of fluid in the THM400, if the oil is cold, the level on the dipstick will probably be below the ADD mark. You should always set it when idling and at running temperature. It's the only way to get the level right. And having too much oil in a Hydra-matic is a bad thing. The oil can starts foaming and/or causing extra drag throughout the unit.
