Timing gears...

Jus wonderin why most timing gears cannot be used with hydraulic roller cams, any info would be appreciated, tryin to put together a 350 for my 77 and I got a good deal on a Pete Jackson gear drive.

Huh? Why not? I'm using a common comps double roller chain with my hydraulic roller cam. Just have to put a cam button on it to prevent the cam from walking.

He as about timing GEARS not chains...big difference.

gear drive

If the car has a knock sensor, the gear drive will make enough sound to cause the sensor to retard the spark. The gear drives I've looked at all have a disclaimer saying they will not work on knock sensor equipped cars. I've seen fuel pumps have a ticking sound and cause the same effect.

If you don't have a knock sensor can you use a gear drive on a hydraulic roller cam?

I don't know why that would be. They are used with mechanical roller cams.

thnx for the info, I was just wondering because summit says my gears can't be used with a hydraulic roller cam but I couldnt see why.

I think what Summit is referring to is you can't use it on the later
factory hydraulic cams it would work on a retro fit hydraulic cam.
the front of later cams is different from early cams.
