I was smoked off the line by one in a short, light to light run in my Powerstroke. He was on my passenger side and for the next run I went to "high" 4x4 and spooled it to 2800. Pulled him to my back bumper where there is one helluva black smoke disharge. "Fart-Can Muffler" boy sucked some serious smoke with his window down. 3 times this was repeated with same results. He has discovered that Diesel Tuning has come a long way as well!
This was done on a private oil company road and not on a street with any other vehicles present.
I met the kid at a local run-what-you-brung contest organized by the quarterly cruise-in. He recognized my truck as I was using it to tow my 525HP Chevy powered Jeep. With 4.88 's,locked axles, and very light weight it's quick in the 1/8th. I offered him a run with the Jeep but he declined. I think too many of his friends were there for witnesses. He said I gave him lung-cancer with the diesel smoke!

I'm basing the Evo's on Autoweek's article and from what my friend said his friend got. Oh and a guy I went to school with that I met in the parking lot one night, I asked him and he didn't even want to talk about how bad his gas mileage was.
Honestly, though, how long do you think those poor cars will hold up to 400hp consistently? Subarus and Mitsubishis aren't really known for their reliability... At least according to JD Power and Associates.
I loved my Talons...but it was good to be mechanically proficient. They always needed tinkering.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I don't know why everyone thinks these ricer cars are light, Subaru WRX STI curb weight is 3350, that coupled with 300Net HP gets you easy 14's and you might get lucky and pick up a high 13sec run if there's a good tailwind.
I have seen plenty of "12 second" cars, WRZ's , SRT4's etc. at the drag strip and in stock form, sorry but they aren't much to watch and never come close to what everyone thinks they will run, mostly 14 and 15's.
I had a run in with one when I was breaking in my new 406ci. I was out on a deserted stretch near me and I was going to rev it to about
5000RPM in second a few times to seat the rings. So I pull away from the light fairly slow in first and shift easy into second and get ready to nail it and i look over and some idiot in one of these cars is pacing me.
Well I am going to do what I came there to do and I hit the gas and lit up the tires at about 40MPH and the poor ricer didn't lknow what hit him, I looked in the rear view mirror and he was way back with his blinker on, turning off probably going to look for an '80 Vette with a stock motor

In the late 60's Carroll Shelby tried big American V-8s in Corvettes, Cobras, and Mustangs. There's a good reason he didn't choose a Datsun B210. They have no style. I don't care how fast a WRX Sti is, It looks like a 70 hp Datsun.
Lets be serious here. These cars are not going to get you laid and nobody is going to be talking about them 40 years from now. I own an impreza and it is a good daily driver. Most STI owners I know of have either sold their cars or are in the process of getting rid of them.
Sort of a side note. I do agree that the 3000gt and stealth do have an appealing body style. However, their reliability is typical of Chryslers and Mitsubishis, horrid. Every single one that I looked at, when I was considering one a long time ago, had something that needed to be fixed. None of them had all that many miles, either.

Before I bought my first Talon, I ran across a real oddity - a Stealth with the TT AWD 3000GT drivetrain. It was some sort of factory one-off...if I could have come up with the money, I would have bought it. Weird car.

the T/T 3000 gt was a good cruiser, i had it (black) for 3 years about 10 years ago...but it was far too heavy for my taste and on winding roads i could be beaten easily by any slightly tuned bug...

That line of thinking from owners of "faster" cars is exactly why I had so much fun with mine!
Wayne: The EVOs are pretty quick, a little black one had me for about half a second as I spun through first gear, hit 2nd, hooked and launched by him fast enough to suck his doors off... LOL
Sure pissed him off, I guess he heard C3s are slow. He about wrecked his car flying around a corner and the back end kicked out and came within a few inches of hitting the median.
I have a lot of respect for the 4G63 series of motors and I have been toying around with one myself lately, and at 19lbs of boost that little 122 cubic inch motor can haul some azz. And yeah, my AWD 2G is getting 15MPG, but that is driving the s**t out of it in stop and go traffic. Gets close to 30 on the highway if you take it easy.
turbo rice cars are fast...and racing them from a roll on is asking to get beat. Its all about the driver and how to spool up the turbo with the brake, so you basically get a kick in the ***. If you don't know how to drive them..yea, they'll run 14s all day. I've seen STIs and Lancer EVOs at the track run 12s all day long.
you see why i'd never leave my car keys in any shop???
We work on a lot of very highline cars. If I have done 20,000 dollars worth of bodywork on a car, it would be negligent of me not to put the car through its paces before I deliver it to the customer. I am not talking about abusing the car. But a Porshe Turbo that I've replaced the left frame rail, apron and suspension deserves more than a drive around the block. Besides its one of the perks of my job. I've driven about every euro made. Also beware of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV they get with it in a hurry.

Watch out for the 2G's odd motor mount setup - I assume you know of the crankwalk problem?
