Actually have been thinking this would be the ticket for my C3 L88 clone. The block has fittings already, so using them seems to make sense. And factually a ten percent increase in cooling capacity would be perfect if I could get it. Has anyone done a really clean installation they want to share?

Most add-on type oil coolers intecept the flow of oil after it leaves the filter and before it goes to the oil galleys.

The oil pressure at the galleys is lower coming from an add-on cooler than if no cooler were installed unless the oil filter bypass valve is opening.

Installing one of these add-on type oil coolers could cause some or all the oil to bypass the filter and cooler by opening or partially opening the bypass valve.

If this is going on, you'll never see the pressure drop on your oil gauge and you'll be running unfiltered oil through the engine.
I beg to differ.... What I meant to the elec/ engine loss was that it did not require elec to run it, which in turn has no real loss on the crank that drives the alt.

The oil pressure is insignificant and I don't want to beat every acpect of this idea to death becasue it would never end. I have a high volume oil pump and loosing 1 lb is not going to kill me or the engine that is even if it is a 1 lb loss at that.

This will also never cause all the oil to bypass the filter. If this had any truth to it they would have never sold an oil cooler in the history of autos. I an not 100% sure, but I do not think any of the oil would ever bypass the filter.

I don't want to sound harse, but if I did sorry.

Before wasting time, money and effort doing this, I suggest you spend a little time on research. See IF Chevy used an oil cooler and WHERE they used them. I suspect, if they used them at all, it would be on something like a Can Am application or possbily for boat applications.
Someone refresh my memory, but I don't think any L-88 cars had them from the factory. Possibly as a dealer-installed item or for race-only cars.

I had one on my 10,000 GVW 1 ton 454 4 wheel drive/camper holding/trailer towing, deer slaying redneck dually. Factory supplied.

I don't think the oil cooler is needed here but if it makes you feel better fine. A better oil might be a better way to spend you money though, somthing with a good heat dispersante (I am not talking about mobil 1 or others that spend more $$ on ads than R&D)
That's funny i have a had a few say the same and I know it wasn't me because I had no engine at the time.

You are very close and should get together with a few other C3's soon some where.

It should not be used as a primary, but if it can cool the oil by 20 deg or so it has to cool the engine to a certain point. Now I am not saying it will cool the engine by 20 deg, but maybe 10 or so?
