Having second thoughts about Weber Carbs
I purchased a 48mm IDF Weber carb set up for my engine. I consists of 4 dual Webers, intake, vacuum line kit, K&N Filters etc... but now I am starting the get cold feet. I have heard many stories as to how hard they are to set up. I ran into a guy who restores cars and he said he would never put Webers on a vette, it is just wrong. They sure are nice to look at....in the box.

That said talk with some of the local speed shops to see if they know of anyone that might run them near you. As the V8 guys that run them can help you get close with the jets much faster as you do not want to price out the cost of jets lol. As someone else mentioned the book is good as well. And even though this might sound odd but find your local Air Cooled VW club. As many many did I say many lol. Air Cooled VW people run duel Webbers. I run 48 IDF's on a 2275 VW that is a rocket.

this is what lead me to cusomizing my vette the way i wanted it.....no more open ended electrical connections under the car for this guy......
My fear is that the jets are not close to what I need . I have the sync tool and a LM-1 wide band O2 analyzer, I put a bung in each pipe to prepare for tuning this thing. I have called a couple of sellers of these things and they were no help at all. The unit was on a 350, that much I know. I have a cammed 427 small block. I will also need to build a custom throttle cable bracket for it. I just wish I knew what would be a good starting point.

I have Dcoe weber carbs on my Vette and they are the best carbs that I have ever used. Look up colortune in google and buy one. It will let you watch inside the combustion chamber for setting your jets.

The secret to Colortune is a special, temporary spark plug with a glass viewing window. This lets you actually watch the fuel burning in your cylinder!
A handy color chart tells you whether the mixture is rich, lean or just right. As you adjust the mixture, you'll see the change instantaneously. You can rev the engine and watch the flame color during transitions, too. Use Colortune for your car, motorcycle -- even a tractor -- any engine with a standard 14mm spark plug. An essential tuning tool for carbureted or modified engines. Made in England
