OK, here is what I am thinking about using as my foot standoff. Thinking I will just weld this to the frame. The floor pan is about 1" lower than stock (I know that is an NHRA issue, but I need the leg room).
Please criticize me freely, lol. I want to do this right.
Yeah, forgot to say what I was planning still.
1. will move the foot bar a bit closer to the door and add another brace to the standoff. Then will cut the standoff as much as possible so it doesn't stick into the floor more than necessary.
2. After I get the new body mounts on, I will glass in the hole a bit, maybe add a painted plate over it as well.
3. Will probably weld a round cap on the vertical bar and then of course, once the hoop is welded up, will install the swing out bar so everything is straight.
This, unless someone points out any flaws I should address.
Probably just 5 point as this is good to 10.0 per NHRA rules, I believe, although I bought an 8 point. Got the standoff finished today on the driver's side, probably will just wait to do passenger side for down the road.
I'm happy with the swing out bar angle, it should go just below the lock and handle, so I can open the car from the inside. I did go ahead and weld the standoff in rather than bolt it though, was a lot easier really. Still debating on whether or not to weld or bolt the main hoop and back tubes...
I have to get the body mounts on next weekend before I finish up the main hoop, back down tubes and finish up the swing out bar. I did get a S & W swing out kit for $35 looks pretty straight forward to setup really.
