Here are the typical things that I find on commercially rebuilt Q-Jets (including those from "reputable" builders like Holley):
Mixed-matched parts from multiple years Q-Jets (like airhorn from a Pontiac matched to a float bowl from a Chevy)
Power piston stop pin cut off
Idle air bleed holes plugged with lead plugs
Incorrect jets and rods for application (often "generic" no-size parts)
Incorrect float type (brass float)
Incorrect float level
Missing parts
Internal passages plugged with sand from sandblasting process
Internal metering orifaces drilled out or removed
Secondary throttle linkage misadjusted
Throttle plate broken from improper installation of shaft bushings
Warped/damaged parts used resulting in no passage continuity for fuel passages through airhorn.
Incorrect gaskets used resulting in blocked fuel and/or air passages
And these are just a few of the things I guarantee you will find in a commercially rebuilt carb. You have to identify and fix each one of these problems before the carb will ever run right. I have had several of these carbs that were in such bad shape that rebuild was not possible.
