Two questions: What is the purpose of the hood insulation...for sound suppression or "paint-blistering-on-the-hood" prevention? AND what is the BEST adhesive to anchor those pesky plastic tips???? Mine just fell off AFTER I just installed it about 2 months ago. I used a quick set epoxy glue....is it possible that the "quick-set" causes the epoxy to become brittle when exposed to the engine bay heat?
To the best of my knowledge, the hood insulation for C3's came out when the engine thermostats went to 195 degrees (1973, I think). Prior to that, no insulation for 180 degree engines. It can be helpful if you have A/C... if a compressor clutch fries, it will blister the hood without insulation [ask me how I know]. Insulation can't hurt anything under the hood of any C3, unless it impacts the intake air path.
J B Weld then tape them on with blue painter tape been there did that got my insl from Paragon Looks great used my old discs and glued A couple deals on then painted around the out side area looks like factory.Shined disc up with bench grinder.

Actually I believe some '69s have insulation. AIM shows a full piece I believe, but only about 1/3 of a sheet was used on the cars that got it. Not used '70-'72. Then it started again in '73. That is from memory, I could have some details confused.
probably not the official reason, but i noticed a long time ago when running the car long enough followed by a short shower that the water on the hood would quickly vaporize. imagine steam rising from the hood. neat . . . maybe a little distracting . . .

The hood I used came from a car with AC and I already noticed that they removed the air and that there was some fire within the system. The hood had some burn marks on it. The insulation was already removed, so this could be right.
