DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!
Betcha didn't think this thing would get so big did ya'...
What an awesome thread. It may take me days to sort through all of this good stuff...

I'd like to get a copy of one of the dyno programs but until I do I'd sure like you to take a shot at mine when you get a chance.
I definately know what the time thing is about...

I have...

Billla,

Thanks for offering to do this. I am in the process of finalizing my build plans and would really appreciate this tool. Would you mind doing two versions, with different heads? I am trying to see the impact of a choice here. Here is my build:

Version 1:
Big Block Chevy
6500-7000 Redline
4.290 Bore
4.25 Stroke
6.385 Rod
491 ci, I believe
10.4:1 CR

3946074 Aluminum Head
Flow at this cam's lift: 307 Int / 187 Exh
295 cc intake port
2.18 / 1.88 valves

Crane 134691 Cam
290/300 Adv. Dur 110 LSA .580/.600 lift
@ .050: 256/266
Here is the cam card:
http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...tType=camshaft

Rocker 1.7:1
Headers 2" / 3.5"
3" Dual exhaust with Ultraflow mufflers
RPM Air Gap - Rectangle port
Holley 850 CFM DP
cold air induction

Version 2:

All same, except the head:

Brodix Race Rite - Rect
intake 294 cc
flow: 332/217
valve: 2.25 / 1.88

If it is easy, I would also be interested to see if the AFR 305 is worth the extra time and Money:

AFR 305 - non-CNC
intake 305 cc
flow: 357 / 276
valve: 2.25 / 1.88

I really appreciate your generosity and willingness to share your time and knowlege.

Larry

Default dyno for zz383

Billa I was wondering if you could post the data you have for the ZZ383.I just bought it for my 88 vert and I was wondering about gearing and stall speed as well as what the rwhp might be

Default DeskTop Dyno Question

Sorry up front for hijacking the thread (I wasn't sure of a good forum to post to):

Billa,

Kudos to you for the amount of time you are dedicating to helping everyone on the forum.

My questions to you are not related to a DD run, but, rather, info about DD itself. I found this thread while doing a search for DD threads. I want to buy my own software but there are several choices out there. Based on the results you have posted for others, it appears DD is a good compromise between value and absolute engineering accuracy and will be my choice. My questions are:

It seems that good results come only from good input. Is there a community out there for sharing database files for cams, heads, etc?

What are the major limitations of the software? (I.E. doesn't do forced induction well, algorithms unusually skewed to one factor such as head flow or something else)

While addressed to Billa, anyone with engine sim experiences is more welcome to jump in.

BTW, to keep the thread on topic -- requests for DD runs -- I will be happy to move the post to another forum, just suggest which one.

Regards,
Alan

Ran the new motor on a chassis dyno this morning for the first time...
motor has about 1500 miles on it, and it does still feel a bit tight...

BUT after the first couple of runs....

my 475 hp turnkey crate engine only produced 311 rear wheel horses

My tuner is still sorting an off idle hesitation, but that won't improve the peak power. Torque is reasonably flat, so should make for a good street engine... just a bit disappointed with the peak power number. I was hoping for around 350 rwhp.

Here's the actual rear wheel horsepower obtained.
Maybe we calculate our neddies differently in Australia?
This is in full street trim, with mechanical fan, A/C, power steering and alternator belts all attached.
With a custom set of 1.75" Tri-Y headers, full 2.5" twin exhaust system and reverse flow mufflers at rear (X-pipe with Magnaflows caused too much drone)

I am curious as to what this combo would make compared to 80crabvette (first page). I believe he has a bit more cam than I do. I am expecting my combo to run maybe a bit more torque and maybe a little less horsepower. Thanks!

Billa hasn't posted results on here since 12/13/2007. Think this got too big for one guy to handle in his spare time.

I see in the dyno sheet 462HP max.
The mechanical fan and all the belts accessories/options affect your RWHP.
The RWHP should be 25%-30% less from the fly wheel HP so you are close 325HP.

Hi avner, I agree that the figure will be lower at the rear wheels, but I was expecting 25% absolute max drop (not >30%), being a manual trans.
I had issues with the Edelbrock carb (AVS 800), and have now fitted a Holley 4150 Street HP.
Solved the problems with hesitation and motor is much more responsive and feels stronger at top end.
I haven't been back on dyno to validate actual results though. I'm hoping the dip at 4800 has been overcome... feels like it on the road.
The custom tri-Y headers (rather than long tube) seem to support the very strong mid range, and may also contribute to the lower peak power than expected using desktop dyno sim.
It's still running a little rich. A bit more tuning and I'm sure it will achieve a few more neddies.
I'm happy with the results for the moment..... for the majority of use, it's a open road cruiser, and it is a lot of fun.

I'll more than likely get itchy fingers when I get it on the track. If I don't pull mid 12's, I'll be looking for some additional stallions.
Might be as simple as fitting electric fans in place of the mechanical fan I have.

Did I mention it sounds awesome...... turn up your volume!

Now I notice that you changed the steering wheel to the 'wrong' side,
that nice, I mate a corvette guy from the kangaroo land at Carlisle PA few years ago and if I remember he had 81 corvette and his name was Philip.
I use the long tube headers with 3" chamber exhaust all the way without mufflers this really free up the engine and the music is awesome.

Folks, I'm tentatively and carefully opening this back up. I'll do as many as I can, as soon as I can...but please read the 1st post carefully as I'm going to be a complete hard-*** about getting all the information needed up-front AND doing one run/customer.
