Default My Problem: Fuel Starvation

Here is the story. Everytime i push on the gas, after about 4 or 5 seconds it begins to buck. I have changed the fuel pump thinking that was the issue but its not. The odd part about it is that my vette starts and idles perfectly. I was out the other night and was at a red light at the base of a hill. From a dead stop i accelerate and begin to climb the hill. About a fourth of the way up the vette begins to buck and then completly dies on me. After i put it in park it starts up perfectly. That was the first time the car had ever died on me and i was very suprised. Does any one know what might be causing my problem? i believe that it is the carb, but i want to be sure before is go in a tear it all apart. Any insight would be helpful.
thanks!

(I changed the fuel filter about a month ago so thats not it either)

This can only be attributed to fuel starvation. What to check:

1. Change the fuel filter.

2. (and this was my problem that did the exact things you are saying, including the bucking) Check the transitional rubber fuel line hose from the fuel line to the tank to the Carb. Mine somehow got kinked!!!

VettePower, did you end up replacing the rubber parts of your fuel lines or just un-kink them?

The rubber transition hoses I am talking about are only abot 6 inches long. They go from where the fuel lines (inlet and outlet) end at the fuel pump. The real ones are sold as molded hoses, almost shaped like S's. At some point before I got my car someone replaced it with a regular straight piece of fuel hose.

I believe that when i replaced my fuel pump, the lines weren't kinked but i can always check again. I would think that it is a good idea to replace them anyways seeing that they are probably as old as the car. Im guessing that when you do, there are actual "Fuel Pump Hoses" that you buy. am i correct?

Yep. Check the Ecklers catalog. They sell the both. 1 for the inlet which is a 5/8'' hose (i beleive) and the other for the outlet which is smaller....

Could also be a plugged-up tank sock or carb float stuck in UP position.

Ill be looking into those also if replacing these hoses does not work. Im guessing that the work will be a little bit more involved to fix the tank sock and carb float...

Change that filter as your #1 item. Also, make sure nobody has installed a filter anywhere else in the system, like on the suction side of the fuel pump (or back at the tank).
