Default 1968 Corvette Frontend Header Bar

Guys.

I am putting a half front on my 68

There is no header set in place for the lights.

I was told that the 68-72 have a fiberglass reinforcement that glues to the car next to the rear of the lights near the hood.

Would that mean that the later bars like the 73 and 4 that I have are different in size? I dont remember there being a peice of fiberglass support that went with the other 2 header bars

The APM says nothing

Let me know and if anyone can take me a pic, I would appreciate it

The supports you mention go on each side of the HL opening.

Nah,

I think you mean on the later vettes late 69-

68 has no side brackets

I am talking about the headerbar and the support that it mounts to

Send a pic of the bar and the glass please 68-72

Thanks though

You may be right. I never paid much attention to whether the 68 had those reinforcements on the sides. The 69 and up had a metal bracket that attaches to the inner-fender and to the ends of the header that gave the front nose some needed support. They are in most catalogs.

can someone snap me a pic of a 68-72 at the header

I want to see if it has a fiberglas strip and the metal header as i was told

Also If some on has a car apart, a nice measurement to center the new one would be great

thanks

That car would've needed both clips replaced and the rocker channels are rusted out. The only thing it really has going for it is the windsheild frame, drivetrain, hood, and vert decklid.

Thanks though

If your rebuilding your frontend add those brackets, they added them to the later years for a reason.

Check your messages, I sent you a PM about those pictures.

Yeah Rick,

I know. Kinda like the doors with no supports that immediatly changed along with the whole car by late 69

The late 68's did have the end supports as listed in my asm. manual and on my car. There is a fiberglass piece that was bonded to the the car and riveted to the header bar which maybe what you are referring to. The later cars did not use this piece as thier header bar didn't use rivets.

All early C3s had the bonding strip on the header bar, that was eliminated later, but I dont think that is what he is asking about.

Manuel. What month is your car.

I have an April and May 68 and neither calls for it. My asm doent even show the bar which is why I brought it up. Problem is neither have a front nomore as they were wrecked and I kept the slavagable stuff and got rid of the bad glass. It never crossed my mind that this would be an issue. I figured the new one would be ready to go or have the right stuff

Does anyone have any pics of how the thing sits with the hood cut out?

all I know is the peice is notthat easy to find. Eck doesnt even have it and most people use it without the strip. I was told although there is a small peice of fiberglass the header bars are all the same. Th only difference is rivet holes

If all you want is the bonding strip on top of the header bar, that is easy to find. Just call any of the fiberglass manufacurers. If you want a used one, I am sure I can find on out on the bone pile.
